Is Eric Gordon the worst "clutch" 4th quarter player in the league?
Posted by danman6336 on 2/3/14 at 10:12 pm00
Probably not, but he's in the conversation
Certainly the worst one with a max deal, and its not even close

we have the worst clutch 4th quarter player and the worst 4th quarter coach. A bad combination

He's hit 3 game winners so far.

Gordon is far from why we lost tonight

Whatever Monty was calling in the 4th quarter was not an NBA offense.

What a joke. How many do you want him to drop in the 4th quarter?

Stop looking at numbers! Gordon doesn't have what it takes to finish games.

Does AD get a pass for taking a bunch of terrible forces shots?

Sure. Why not? Let's stick with the narrative that everything comes down to Monty and Gordon.

Yes, he does imo. Jen Hale let us in on late huddle discussion on TV...
She said Monty's plan was to stop Parker's penetration, and feed AD the rock.
What's a guy supposed to do when the coach tells him to attack?

It is just easier to point at one thing and grunt.
You have to care to dig, watch, think, and try to figure out what the issues are.
By the way, they are playing the bad players more, so they lose more.

Admittedly, this was the first game I've watched all season. Had tickets to the game and had a great time. I'm going to get League Pass tomorrow and get caught on the previous games.
However, the ease with which Pop shifted the momentum at the end of the game with his pressure and offense for Parker and Duncan, in addition to essentially benching Morrow for the fourth quarter, my first impression is not a positive one.

The currently available roster is just not so good.
If you want more than a 50% chance of seeing a win, don't look for it to happen against a top team with Hall of Fame players and Coach.
Fun game? Is this not enoigh at this time?
It is for me.

It was a fun game, but it's not like they were blown out the entire game. I think they had a 10 point lead going into the 4th and then Pop stopped rope-a-doping. When he applied pressure, Monty/the team/whoever had no answer.
But you make a fair point. It was a fun game.

Gordon is a very tricky subject. Teams are not going to let him beat them at the end of games. 95% of this board could get away with devising defenses that stop the only 2 threats on the floor, especially when 1 of those is having an off night and getting manned up by Boris Diaw on defense.
Also, Danny Green is a pretty damn good defender. It sucks for Gordon that he is now the person asked to carry the load late in the games and the entire opposing team knows it. With a healthy roster, his role is even more questionable as it seems the plays run through Holiday late in the game.
In short, he does seem to come out passive in the second half for whatever reason. This seems to contribute to his lack of flow late in games. Then he's asked to turn it on in the face of adversity and fails more often than not.
Talent/Coaching/Fit/Aggressiveness...choose any of them and it at least provides a reasonable argument as to why he seems to disappear when we need him most.

Wow, this reactionary thread was stupid.

He's supposed to man up and get his team a W. Just didn't happen tonite. But at least he knows the mindset of the coach that he wants him taking over games and he wants him with the ball when the game matters, no matter what.
I like it.
I'd rather lose b/c AD has a bad game, then watch EG and Roberts try to win by shooting fade aways and kicking to Aminu for threes.

It's not fun to go into the fourth quarter with a 12 point lead and know they're still gonna lose.
