On each side of the bracket there is a large square shaped hold and a small Phillips head screw. How do I get this thing off.

every tv is different.

Usually there are 2-4 scres on the back of the TV, much higher up than you would suspect affixing the stand to the TV.

If it's a wall mount, again they are different, but usually you just remove the lock screw and pull up and away.

Just lift up and pull off. It's just hooks that go on a wall bracket.

On ours, you insert the allen wrench and twist 1/4 turn to unlock, then lift off mount

there should be a lock on the bottom of the braces that are connected to the TV. They should be in the vertical position (locked)... You need to turn them horizontal so you can lift the TV off the wall mount. The mounts come with a long allen wrench to twist it, so find something to put in the holes so you can turn them.
