By many accounts championships define the greatest of the greats.

Now if Peyton Mannings career or legacy is tarnished for losing 2 superbowls then you gotta put Big Ben, Troy Aikman, and Terry Bradshaw on top of your lists.

Joe Flacco & Trent Dilfer have to be mentioned ahead of Dan Marino as well.

You can either base greatness off of championships or not. Can't pick and choose when it's suitable.

Can't it be one factor out of many?

I'll immediately concede that Manning is the greatest human ever to walk the Earth if you promise that these threads will stop.

Why must it be absolute?

No, championships are the product of great teams imo.

One man can't win it all at anything. Circumstances are everything.

I'm not even a big manning guy, just making a point.

Because if you're gonna say championships make you great or not then you gotta take Warren Moon and Marino out of the discussion.

Gotta keep it consistent, either it makes you great or it doesn't.

Even if this was true, why does it have to be so absolute?

If championships are truly the sole product of great teams, why do you allow for the possibility of basing "greatness off of championships or not"?

Not every team is the same. There has to be some flexibility as not all QBs had exactly the same productivity as others. Did Dilfer has as big of an impact on winning a superbowl with the Ravens as Aaron Rodgers did for the Packers? Of course not - so you can't be so absolute and view super bowl winning QBs as equals.

Who said Payton Manning wasn't great?

The debate centers around whether or not he was the greatest.

The point was that if SuperBowl victories define a guys career then TB has to be in the discussion.

Montanas named gets tossed around on the reg but people forget Bradshaw.

But why can't it be a factor? Not saying championships are the end all but to act like postseason performance has no bearing on the discussion is wrong too IMO

The point is before yesterdays game he was argubly the GOAT and people would crown him after the BRONCOS won, now after a miserable game he's not even in the conversation.

He was already a SuperBowl Mvp.
