Advice on outdoor BBQ pit (built in)

I'm doing an outdoor kitchen. Want to put a good pit in my island. I've always had weber gas grills, but I want a 36-40 inch built in. I've looked at DCS and lion grills. Anyone recommend a brand? There are so many options and features. It makes my head spin. I went to shoppers choice today and got blown away.
TIA
TIA

I have a Bull Brahma and love it. I use mine 2-3 times a week and have had it for 6 months.

Big Green Egg XL. The ultimate cooking experience.

I am not a gas grill guy. Do not own one....so consider that when I say:
Big Green Egg XL. Kamado Joe XL.
Ive never cooked on the Primo or Grill Dome's but folks here say they are just as good.
We have an Egg here, and a Kamado at my camp. Gets used often and I freakin love them. The Prime Steakhouses (Ruths, Brennans, etc) have broilers that reach 1800-2000 degrees to cook your steaks. Nothing you have at home can get close. Those ceramics can do 700-800-900 Degrees.
Get you an electric starter, and your coals are ready in 15 minutes...when done cooking, smother the fire and save ur charchoal. A bag will last you many, many cookings.
The ability to control temps is amazing. Makes smoking meats and cooking low and slow a breeze as well. Best of both worlds, imo.

If you have the budget for DCS I wouldn't even consider the Lion. The only reason I would go with Lion is if I was going to put the difference towards a primo/kamado joe or an icemaker/fridge. And in that case I would go with the Blaze grill over the Lion. Do yourself a favor and set up a time to stop by ShoppersChoice and cook on the DCS before you make a decision. Who is building your outdoor kitchen?

Check out kitchen aid built in grills. About 2-3 grand will get you a very nice heavy duty commercial style grill. I'm in year 5 with mine. Btw...I wasn't a gas grill guy until owning this one.

Kitchen aide grills today are not the same grills you bought five years ago. They are much cheaper and I believe available @ lowes for around 900$.

Yes it seems that kitchen aid has gotten into the Lowes market but those are primarily the cart/all in one versions with a side burner. The heavy duty versions still exist (the built in variety) and are comparable to DCS/Bull.
I'd at least suggest the OP look into them......and not at Lowes.

Frisco, I'm doing more than a kitchen, I'm doing an outdoor living space. A family friend is doing the general contractor things for me. I know chef tony personally and he cooks all the time on the dcs.

Weber makes big built ins. Look them up online.

Check out Artisan gas grills also. My mom has one and its badass.

Will look up weber. Thanks everyone for the info. I like the dcs, but can't see spending 4000 for a grill I may use once a week if that much. Just wondering if the extra money is really worth it

My dad used to have a DCS but had some issues with the components and had trouble getting replacement parts. Also said it flared up pretty bad.
A Big Green Egg is the most versatile, and you can have a kitchen built to fit them easily.
Other good brands are Bull, Alfresco, Saber (infrared), Broil King (good budget option), and if you're looking to spend a pretty penny look into Memphis Wood Pellet Grills.

Carter,
I know Chef Tony as well. He loves DCS and would tell you that most all of these grills mentioned don't even compare. Some are very good grills but not on the same level as DCS. They are grills that cost more than DCS that cook well but for me DCS is the best value. Go cook on one with Chef Tony and let that be your deciding factor. If you want go cook on most of the grills mentioned in this thread with Chef.

For that kind of money, I would contract someone to build what I want custom. Hell, for half that, it can be done.

We just had an 18x36 in-ground put in. My next project is to close in my covered patio for a sun room and build a pergola over the old uncovered patio area since we added another 900 sqft of uncovered area. Once that is done I plan on doing the outdoor kitchen. Likely installing a smaller 2-3 burner gas cooktop and a Large green egg to the side. Doing all the work myself. Anyone have an ice maker or do you think it is even worth it?
Also anyone know where I can get a good sheet of stainless steel for a countertop online. I am in Georgia so local places in Louisiana are no help to me.

Frisco,
I'm seriously thinking of doing that. I'm not a pro griller. I'm more of a novice. The manager, Troy, was very helpful at shoppers. He said the DCS was the best value as well. I guess I'm just trying to see if a smaller grill(DCS at 36") is worth twice as much(lion at 40"). Both come with rotisserie and griddle inserts. The DCS is 3400 and the Lion is 1700. The DCS uses ceramic and the lion doesn't. But everything else is pretty much the same.

My dad has an ice maker in his outdoor kitchen...I'd say it definitely comes in handy.

Skip the under counter ice maker they are too small and take too long to catch up. For a few more dollars you can get 300lb stand alone unit.
