Very good movie. It's up there for me, good story and creepy as hell. Favorite part was them translating the Latin

I consider more Sci-fi than horror.
But it is one of my favorite sci-fi movies.

I still like it a lot but the computer effects in that movie have aged horribly
Saw it in the theatre and my gf at the time had an anxiety attack afterward though.

Event Horizon is a good SciFi flick. Pretty scary too.

That's funny. I think the opposite. It's more horror than scifi.
I like it a lot. It fricked me up bad when I watched it when I was younger. Horrible nightmares. I had a tough time sleeping. The thought of a literal connection with hell makes it seem like torture and blood is an immediate threat.
Eta: The effects have aged pretty poorly.

One of the better Sci fi horror films out there. I don't think there is many tho. It got panned by critics but I thoroughly enjoy it whenever I watch it.

Slightly above Aliens
Sci if.
The whole it went to hell then came back I didn't like so much.
I get the ship was evil and the way the scientist guys face looked ( I always imagined his face on a grill) was creepy as hell.
Lawrence went to hell

It didn't go to Hell.
Why do people insist on this?
It went to another dimension. That dimension was warped and twisted and enjoyed pain, but it wasn't hell. It may have been what we perceive hell to be, but nowhere in the movie was it said that it went to hell.

Liked it a lot, but found it fell a little short. Had a ton of potential and was scary - but I thought it could've been a little better.

I remember expecting an adventure space movie and being scared as hell

Wasn't a fan at all.

It's fairly strongly implied.
Both the Captain of the Event Horizon and Fishburne's characters refer to the dimension as Hell.
The Gateway was designed by director Paul Anderson as an homage to the puzzle box from Hellraiser. Clive Barker was even a consultant to the film.
One of the special features from the DVD was entitled Visions of Hell.
Anderson also lifted sound effects from the video game Doom, which is also about Hell.
Dr Weir was named after a Dutch demonologist.
The original draft actually had it directly stated to be Hell, but it was altered to provide a little ambiguity.
