A solid looking lever action that shoots the .308 Marlin Express.

Good reviews so far. I've got the chance to get one used for a really good price.

my bro-n-law has one. the gun performs fine, the ammo leaves something to be desired:
hard to find the leverevolution ammo for it. when he has found this ammo it doesn't perform very well and he has lost 2 deer this year using it. my advice is if the price is right get it but don't put a whole lot of faith into making it a 200 yd lever gun.

I like the long barrel marlins. I know of a few older long barrel .30-30's and they're nice shooters. Marlins are almost always surprisingly accurate and not picky about ammo. When I go sight in rifles every year, I KNOW my .30-30 is going to throw a nice group no matter what I put in it. I wish I could say the same for my other rifles.

As far as the caliber goes, I'd use it as long as I had something other than leverevolution bullets. I've had bad expereinces with them in my .30-30 and have seen bad results in .45-70, .444, and .357 with them. On paper it looks like a very good performer and doesn't need the extra help anyway.

mother fb this!! Lost 2 doe with 45-70 leverevolution ammo. one at 15yards SHOT TWICE! got up and ran away, blood everywhere and never found deer. the other at 30 yards zero blood, knocked deer down and got up and ran away. The other was with 30-30 leverevolution, nice 8 pt at 40yards. Trailed drops of blood for 3 hrs. found deer still alive, bullet hole right behind shoulder no exit! Shot again and it ran another 60 yards and died! NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THIS AMMO

It looks like a solid round. Getting a really good deal on the gun, don't know what kind of scope it has. Going to look at it this morning.

In the pic, it looks like a really BIG one!

As far as the 308 Marlin Express round itself, It's basically a remake of the 307 Winchester. Both were developed to provide near 308 Winchester ballistics in a lever action rifle using rimmed brass. Typical ever actions like the Marlin are not as sturdy as the typical bolt action rifle. Consequently, they can't safely handle the higher pressure of rounds like the 308 Win. In order to generate near 308 Win ballistics, the 308 Marlin Express brass at thicker at the base to safely handle the high pressures. I don't know if anyone other than Hornady makes ammo for it. Handloading for it could be tricky if brass production is discontinued. OTOH, I've read about some hand loaders using modified 444 Marlin or 307 Winchester brass to load the 308 Marlin Express. Interesting Article About the 308 ME

I probably wouldn't consider a new one, but I can get this one for $375 for the whole set up.

Remimgton makes corelokt ammo for it. Never go wrong with corelokt.

Well that's a damn good deal if it's in good shape. Going off the picture it looks good.

If the scope sucks maybe you can get the gun without the scope for a little less.
