I don't post over here often but love to lurk and explore for new music to expand my horizons.

My GF loves Kings of Leon so I bought us tickets for their show this Wednesday in ATL. Noticed Gary Clark Jr was the opening act and although I'd heard of him I haven't really taken in much of his music. So I've been trying to listen to a lot of his stuff over the last month and I'm continually impressed.

I assume I'm extremely late to the party on this guy and respect the awesome perspectives this board provides....what's your thoughts on him? Favorite songs of his?

have seen him at the parish, that is next to the house of blues in new orleans and at jazzfest. he is the truth. an absolute beast. two of my favorites are ain't messin round and bright lights of his album. eric clapton said he was unsure about the future of music until he heard gary clark jr.

The Dude's a stud. His new album is part Hendrix, part Living Colour, part SRV and part Clapton.

Gary Clark Jr. is awesome. Couldn't wait for Keith Urban to stop singing at the grammys so they could jam together. They finally jammed at the end. It was great.

Had the pleasure of meeting Gary a couple of years ago in Lafayette when he played. Met him at JSP. I had heard of him from the Crossroads 2010 DVD. I made sure all of my friends went to watch him for Festival Internationale. This was before he started getting really big.

I've seen him three times. He's as good of an artist as there is right now. He's incredibly talented. Seeing him live will turn you into a huge fan.

Favorite songs of his:

When My Train Pulls In
Next Door Neighbor Blues
You Saved Me
Bright Lights - obvious choice
Don't Owe You a Thing
Numb
The Life
Soul

He'll likely play covers as well. He plays 3 O Clock Blues a lot. It's amazing.

I've seen GC JR play everything from the blues tent at JF to Crossroads @ MSG back to HOB NOLA. Great show every damn time. I would buy a ticket to see him play next time he is in town.

Gary Clark Jr is good. His music is pretty shallow though. I would catch him at a festival but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Shallow? Shallow is probably the last word i'd use to describe him. He plays with a ton of emotion, i mean it is the blues.

By shallow I mean his catalog. I don't think his compositions have any substance.

Obviously he is a great player. I would be fine with him being all instrumental.

Been listening to him for years.

Back in 2009 my dad was battling cancer and was staying with me. I was going to see Derek Trucks band at HOB here in Houston and he wanted to go with me....he went and stood the entire time even though he was weak. The surprise was that Gary Clark Jr opened for them, after he played my dad turned and said "That guy is good". Few min later as Derek was hitting the stage I look to my left and Gary was standing there...big ol tall guy. He was just enjoying the show, and was really nice. Glad to see he is getting the recognition he deserves. That was the last show my dad got to see....great one to finish with

Truly csb bro

I am huge GCj fan, one part of me is glad he is not that big, one part of me is amazed he isn't

Saw him for the fourth time just recently at the HOB, I have honestly never seen anyone's fingers move like his.

I used to see him every Wednesday night at the Continental Club five or six years ago. My boyfriend at the time was friends with Gary's girlfriend. I knew that dude would do big things and I'm excited that he's getting the attention he deserves. Ran into him at a bar not too long ago and he's still as humble and awesome as ever. Big fan.
