Looking at these two watches now. I want something simple, and I don't care to spend a lot of money, these two look pretty good to me.

Citizen

Seiko

I already own a Seiko dive watch and I love it, I just wanted something a little lighter. How are Citizens? I've never owned one.

I have that Seiko. It's okay. I like it because it's not real big. Downside is it runs out of juice if you don't wear it for a day.

I ordered a watch winder, so that won't be a problem. I'm done changing batteries.

If you don't care that much about the mechanics/engineering of having a nice watch then the citizen is the way to go. It will keep better time and be lighter than any automatic.

I have an Eco-Drive and love it. It's powered by just about every light source, so it keeps ticking even if you leave it inside for long periods of time. Seiko's may be the same way, but prior to purchasing my Citizen I thought they were only powered by sunlight.

I like the Citizen because the black dial is more versatile than the green. you could change that band to anything and look fine. green one might not look as good.

Both have a glass crystal. You won't get more than 5 years out of a watch that does not have a sapphire crystal. A glass crystal will scratch just by banging it into door jams and you will then want a new one. Of those 2, I would definitely choose the automatic Seiko.

Smarter move would be to spend more and get an automatic watch with a sapphire crystal. A Seiko Black monster is a good one for the money as is a Hamilton Khaki.

The Citizen watches last longer on a charge IMHO. Mine would last almost a week without seeing the light of day. Never needed a watch winder for it

So somebody tried to get through my thick skull once on here exactly how the Eco Drive worked, but it didn't stick. So it has nothing to do with kinetic movement?

I believe that Seiko is strictly kinetic.

The Seiko comes in black also.

Any different than the orange monster? Because I own an orange monster, and I really don't want another watch that big and heavy.

It's a whole lot nicer watch, but the Black Monster is 3x as heavy as the ones he's looking at.

ETA: And I strongly prefer Seiko to Citizen.

Don't buy a watch unless it has a sapphire crystal. That, in itself, will put you over $300. If you aren't willing to spend that, then just get a $50 quartz beater like a G-shock.

Eco drive is just like any other battery powered quartz movement watch except that the battery is recharged by solar energy, so you don't have to worry about replacing the battery except every 10 years (I think) or so when the battery goes bad. With the price of the watches that you are looking at it probably wouldn't be worth ever replacing the battery.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this next part is accurate. All quartz watches are more accurate than even the most expensive automatic or mechanical watches. They tend to be cheaper and just less cool as works of engineering than mechanical or automatic watches. There are some super accurate quartz watches (I forget the certification) that can get pretty expensive and high quality.

Hope this helps you make an informed decision.

No. Just speaking aesthetically

I don't like the look of their dress watches, and the only chrono from Citizen I find attractive is the Blue Angels World Chrono A-T

Yes, the ones that cost around $300.

I think they use their proprietary hardlex for Monster dials. You may be able to get it replaced with a sapphire for under $100.

ETA: See post above mine. Maybe not

I think I'm leaning towards the Citizen. It's not terribly expensive, and I'd like to try out the eco-drive. If I like it, I'll buy a more expensive one when it breaks.

Thanks for the input, guys.
