"just getting off another back to back 12 hour shift, sucks but making that double $$$$" Shutup a-hole, you probably sat on your arse watching netflix the entire time. Many also seem to be overly proud of the fact that they have a job and are basically propping up the economy on their own "Yeah headed into work, unlike all them damn Obama voters!"

And they might have. The down time is a the time to savor because in a second things can change.
I have big resepct for operators. True they work shift work and they are off a good bit and make really good money, but they sacrafice weekends, holidays, and most times a normal guy has off.
My line of consulting deals with the industrial sector and I wouldn't want to do their job. When the alarms are going off and shite is hitting the fan, they are running toward it, while we are running away. I have been in control rooms where it's all laid back and good times. I have also been in them when things went bad.

I'd like to know how many of them are really operators. I'd be willing to bet most of them are assistant operators or some labor guy that works for a contractor
