I wasn't yet watching much NFL in 1990, so I was wondering, for those who watched these two play, who deserved MVP honors?

Judging by stats, it looks like Moon.

the answer to any question that reads "Joe Montana or _______?" is Joe Montana

Example: Q: Best human being ever birthed, Jesus or Joe Montana? A: Joe Montana.

49ers were 14-2 and Oilers were 9-7. That usually plays a role. Plus Montana was coming off of a super bowl victory. Purely speculating, but I would also imagine that Montana got to rest early in some games and probably even missed a game or two since he rarely made it through the entire season.

We probably would have had our one and only threepeat in Super Bowl history had Montana not gone down in the 4th quarter of the NFC Championship Game.

The 49ers were up 13-12 with 2:36 remaining in the game when the Giants forced a fumble deep in their own territory. The 49ers went on to lose it 15-13.

The fumble was on Roger Craig as they were running out the clock. I don't think Montana would have prevented that. Steve Young was probably the best backup QB in league history in any case.

Their play calling might have been different had Montana been in the game though. I'm not saying it would have been there is always that possibility.

Leonard Marshall nearly broke Montana in half. Course, Jim Burt had hit Jeff Hostetler low earlier in the game.

I remember John Taylor being awarded a catch on the opening drive of that game that was obviously not a catch. But..... the 49ers kept possession and kicked the FG, total horseshite.

I laugh at the 49ers fans who were crying after the Saints and 9ers played this year.

it was rich.

it was as if they've never been the beneficiary of a questionable call before.

they can save that bullshite for some Saints fan/NFL fan who isn't as familiar with their luck.

Montana missed the entire 1991 and 1992 seasons as a result of that hit.

yeah, it was ugly.

I don't know if the 49ers would have won it had Montana not gone down.

I mean.. it wasn't like they were running away with the game when he got hurt.

the Giants also did some things in that game with their special teams to stay in it. Gary Reasons ran a fake punt for a big gain that set up a field goal.

the Giants did not score a TD in that game, instead they only kicked field goals.

the Giants were playing with their backup QB and a veteran RB in O.J. Anderson.

it is pretty remarkable they won the whole league that year.

I think Montana probably won the MVP in 90 because people wanted to recognize him for an outstanding career and the 49ers for being so dominant (14-2) in the regular season even though moon was the better statistical QB for the regular season IMO.

There's a tendency of voters to penalize players who don't play for the best teams. Moon was not playing for a great franchise and he never really broke through and won much in teh playoffs. That was unfairly held against him by the voters even though he was really an outstanding quarterback.

you really try at being crazy.

Some of us are just biased - and most of us are simply - responding to bias...but others call it "trolling."

But you just like going crazy...

And crazily enough, sometimes you make sense and I agree. But this is one of your pure antagonism - look at me - crazy posts.

The oilers had some good teams back in the day. But Warren Moon really deserved to be sent to a better team that could have done more. Had he been on another team, I think he would have had at least one season where he would have at least made it to the Superbowl. He was def underrated in my opinion. Too bad in those days they did not have free agency, which would have allowed him to sign with someone else. Imagine if we had him in New Orleans at qb, with those great defensive teams of the early 90's late 80's?

With the 49ers running game and defense Steve Bono could of won most of those Super Bowls

I forgot about Bono. Another very good but underrated qb. Probably would have done some good things with the niners, had they stuck with him instead of Young. But I would not put him on the same level as Moon or Montana.
