Do any of them understand where and why this tradition originated?

It originated at Duke because the students learned that if they all jumped up and down at the same time, they would be able to shake and rattle the floor.

I don't get why other student sections do this to this day because clearly arenas these days are built to where the floor can not be shaken by the fans. It's a pet peeve of mind, do they think that just jumping up and down and hollering is a distraction?

I think its funny watching a Friday Night game in a small conference and seeing the 20 students in their student section jumping up and down.

They jump up and down and yell because it creates a good atmosphere and because it's fun. I'm not sure how that's a difficult concept to understand.

I was hoping for the classic OT classification of this action as trashy.

It's more of a distraction than anything a fan at a football game could do.

I guess the point I am trying to make is why not come up with your own distracting tradition when the other team has the ball, rather than copying Duke who started the act to shake the floor, not just be annoying

Utah State has their own traditions to distract that are awesome

I always think the Izzone looks so lame and soft doing this, but Izzo chastises them every time they try to do something over the line, so I can't blame them.

Only Duke fans can jump up and down, Tom Izzo might not be a top 10 CBB coach, and Ken Griffey Jr and Randy Johnson might not make the HOF.

frick you

So should fans start a tradition other than yelling? That was started by somebody.

Maybe we shouldn't clap for good plays. That is just copying whoever was the first to do that.

I also would bet money that some fan base somewhere jumped and yelled before it became famous at Duke.
