At 21, Brenton Hayden figured he'd need to accumulate $7 million to retire early and crafted a plan to do that.

The title of story is kind of misleading. It isn't that he retired at 27, but he now has the net worth and ability to manage his business remotely. I'm sure it also helps to have employees you can trust.

Still, he is a lot further along in his career at this point than I am!

Props to the dude... I've had pipe dreams to do something like that and retire extremely early, but I let too many other things get in the way of actually going out on a limb and trying it.

Part of me would love to have that mindset but I know if I had 7 million by 27 I'd want 10 million by 28.

Meh, call me when he's 65 and let me know how his entire strategy worked out. Something tells me there's bound to be a black swan over a span of 38 years.....

My mindset is that of one of the firsts lines in "wolf of Wall Street". I made 50 million last year , which pissed me off because I was two mill shy of a million a week. I'm too greedy to not continue getting more green

See, I'm not... I have the same mentality as the guy. I have a number in my head, if I could ever get to that point, I would retire and golf/lounge around/travel.

I wouldn't need more, I would be comfortable.

By 2013, I had built a business I was proud of and now had a net worth of just under $20 million. Months past my 27th birthday, I was on vacation with my wife in the Virgin Islands. Caught working with my laptop, a very important interrogation took place: "Didn't you say you were going to retire when you were 27?"

So he married a woman who wasn't satisfied to have found a guy worth nearly $20MM at age 27?

He also lists paid-for seminars as his "education" - which are also on Wikipedia as his "alma mater." This guy reeks of bullshite.

I started a thread on the OT about this a few months back. Those people that claim they are "Harvard Educated" but in reality paid $3500 for a 10 day seminar on campus taught by a guy that went to Boston College.

It's on his Twitter Bio too - I wonder what Harvard & MIT think of that. If this guy isn't a Ponzi schemer I'll eat my hat.

I wouldn't worry about it. In 5.5 years this guy will be serving 10-15 in a white collar prison, probably.

The richest guy I have met (friend of a friend) is about 35. He started a software company that sold for somewhere around $700 million and after the venture capitalist got paid his after tax net worth was over $100 million.

My friend showed me articles about the guy proving what he was telling me. Going out with him was nice to since he would pay for everything.

Be sure to read the comments section from people who did some research on this guy. He started with a lot of money from his parents ($millions). Good for him, but the story is quite disingenuous and vague on details.
