So.. I'm sure everyone has seen the comercials for The Monuments Men. I personally think it has a great cast and will be really good but during the comercials it always says "based on the untold true story".

IDK about you guys but that just seems like a double negative kind of?? How can a movie be based off a story that has never been told? You can't base a movie on a story that doesn't exist..

A story can exist without ever having been told.

but how would you know it exists if the person who knows the story never told anyone about it?

I think they mean untold to the masses.

This is more of an OT type of thread.

this movie looks so incredibly bad and probably highly untrue.

But the cast looks great. And that is the only reason I am interested.

This story has been covered by the History channel. I've seen it twice. It's a true story,it really happened. We got lucky and Americans found the stolen art work and loot the Nazi's stole. They took everything of value out of Western Europe back toward Germany. It was stored in a couple of places for safety trying to wait the war out. The Germans actually thought they were going to win. I saw this about 3 years ago the first time, and again last year.

It might be a good movie. It might also be a worthwhile story. It just seems to me like WWII movies have jumped the shark. There have been so many movies about this war that people have begun to run out of things to say about it.

I agree I think the overlaying idea of stolen art work being recovered and all that stuff is real but I just didn't get the point of saying "based on the untold true story" b\c it seems odd

I've seen it. It's bad. The cast did manage to polish some diarrhea into a turd, though.
