Most disappointing great runs?

The 49ers have reached the NFC title game 3 years in a row and have 0 titles to show for it. They were probably the best team in the NFL the last two seasons, and were up there in 2011.
What are some other great yet disappointing runs by teams that you can remember?
USC during the Carroll years comes to mind. They were a dominant team for several years and only have one title to show for it (I guess technically 0 since it was vacated). Year in and year out it seemed like they were poised to win it all and then they would choke against Oregon State or something.
The Raiders in the 1970's were probably just as good as the Steelers during that decade, but the Steelers won 4 Super Bowls to the Raiders' 1.
It's also sometimes disappointing as a Saints fan knowing we've had probably the best offense in NFL history over a 7 year span since 2006 but that it was wasted many times by bad defense.

90s Jazz for me. Really a lot of great players in basketball never got a championship because they played in Jordan's era.

There isn't really a close second.
The Braves had that crazy run where they won the division 14 years in a row and only had 1 WS to show for it... but that's still 1 WS.

You can also add the 90's for the 49ers...only 1 title with all those great teams.

I would agree, but keep in mind CFB is subjective. There were several years where we had the same record as the other teams but were left out. I would've loved to have seen our 07 and 08 teams in a playoff scenario.

Lost the Super Bowl in 1974, 1975 and 1977. 3 in 4 years. They also lost the 1970 Super Bowl as well.

2011 LSU in a landslide. They win the Natty and they are the GOAT, now its just another "what could have been" team.
