Who sticks out the most to you. Think both of guys that ended up better or ones that were way worse than who the Saints wanted.

First ones coming to mind for me-

2007 Meachem #27 (same as this year)
I thought strongly at the time that greg Olsen would have been the best selection. It would have been. Maybe no need to trade a 2nd & 5th to get Shockey if he was the one. Meachem 171 career catches Olsen 381 career catches. I liked Joe Staley & Posluszny more then too.

2008 Sedrick Ellis #7
Not so much even the player but hated the trade. Seemed too desperate to fill a need. The picks they traded away ended up being what the Saints could have used- Jerod Mayo & Shawn Crable

2009 Malcolm Jenkins #14
They were neck n neck as to value but I liked LB Brian Cushing as a pick more. (Payton even said he would have been the pick if Jenkins was gone). Jenkins was projected to safety from CB before the draft. I'm not a big fan of drafting guys to play a position other than what they played in college- at least not mid 1st Rders fo sho

2013 Kenny Vaccaro #15
I was a leader on the Jarvis Jones bandwagon. I love when our team proves us wrong! We have a clear playmaker on the backend now. Jones only started 8 games. Vaccaro had the same number of sacks- 1.

Rashad Jennings. That was the year everyone was debating over K. Moreno vs. Chris Wells vs. the field.

Also, in 2007 I wanted Ben Olson, Ben Grubbs, Sidney Rice or Paul Posluszny over Robert Meachem.

and the need was so sky high at the time

When the Saints traded to get back in the draft in the 5th Rd (Morstead) I thought fo sho it had to be for Jennings. 5.2 & 5.5ypc his first 2 yrs. 2013 was the first time he got more than 101 touches. 733yds on 163 carries still at 4.5ypc

2008 Sedrick Ellis #7

I remember a lot of us thinking he'd shine if we got a big body next to him. Then we signed Franklin and Rogers, and he did nothing. One good year maybe? What a waste.

2006

I was inlove with AJ Hawk. I was surprised Houston took Williams, and I honestly never thought we had a shot at Reggie.

2007

I can't remember who I wanted. It's harder to put a wish list together in the later rounds. I just looked at the first round, and I can't remember wanting anyone.

2008

I think I was on the DRC bandwagon.

2009

My wish came true that year, although like you, I would have been fine with Cushing.

2010

End of the first round. I was just hoping we'd get good value. When I heard we drafted a CB, I said "What?" Then my brother texted me that Jenkins was being moved to safety. I said "Ok," and then went to sleep.

2011

Again, later in the round, so I was hoping for value. I was stoked we got Jordan. Was shocked we traded for Ingram, but was cautiously excited at the same time.

2013

I was Jarvis Jones all the way.

I'm still trying to remember what I had for breakfast.
But I do remember being mad as hell giving up our 2nd no.1 pick to move up and pick sullivan.
Except for last year there has seemingly been a OLB every year that I wanted us to get. Perhaps still living in the 'dome patrol' years.

I didn't like the Meachem, Sed Ellis or Jenkins picks. I'd have to look up the drafts to see who I would have rathered. But as they say "hind sight is 20/20", so looking back and picking the overachievers would be too easy.

2013 draft: I wanted Mingo but he was gone when we picked. I was a silent supporter of your Jarvis Jones bandwagon. Was totally shocked when we went Vaccaro, didn't hate the pick just didn't expect it. In hind sight we nailed it with the Vaccaro pick as all the other possibilities have underachieved.

also if ya want to add "player they picked who fit my hope better than any other"...

for me that was Cameron Jordan. I was mocking him to the Saints in early January. The issue then, which turned out to be spot on, was how he would do in a 4-3 after being a 3-4 DE at Cal. He went from solid to allstar with the scheme change here.

Here tho we are talking "who at that time of the draft" not critiquing from only now.

How about trading back into the 5th Rd of a draft to get a punter? That might be the greatest dayum-they-know-more-than-we-do pick of the Payton era. Certainly a contender for the most criticized at the time pick- especially for that late.

in 2007, I wanted LB Jon Beason but he was picked just a few spots before the Saints at #27.

I stared to think Posluszny after Beason came off the board but I remember not being all that fired up about that idea.

I was all in for Beason.

2008.. meh... I remembered what had happened the last time the Saints traded up for a defensive tackle.. the Jonathon Sullivan disaster.

so I wasn't thrilled about the move, but Ellis had a lot more accolades coming out of college. Sullivan was more of a one year wonder in 2002 while at UGA.

Ellis was good for the first few seasons but after 2010, I really think he just started to lose an interest in the game. I mean 2010 looked like it was his break out year and then... nothing.

2009... thought it was a good pick. I never liked Cushing, just thought he was some mindless blow hard.

2010... meh... didn't love or hate the pick. I liked Daryl Washington but it turned out he was picked in the middle of the 2nd round so I remembered thinking maybe he wasn't worth it at #32???

2013.. wanted Alec Ogletree because in my mind... Hawthorne hadn't showed anything. I know he was hurt in 2012 but I just had no confidence in our LB's after a god awful 2012 season. I liked the Vaccaro pick though, knew Harper would be relieved of some his assignments in pass coverage.

Yup, in 08 I was all about DRC.

In 09, I was stoked about Jenkins but I really liked Vontae Davis.

In 10, I was hoping for Jerry Hughes (lol), but Daryl Washington would have been my pick since Hughes was gone.

Lived the Jordan pick and the Ingram pick. I was literally falling off of my couch having orgasmic spasms. Fortunately at least Jordan has turned into the monster I hoped he would be.

In 2006, I wanted the Saints to trade with the Jets to get their two 1st round picks. With those picks I wanted Hawk/Ferguson and Mangold. I was pretty pissed when the Jets took two of those players after no trade was made. I was happy with the Reggie pick however.
