Can you get basic channels if you just have internet hooked up?

With some companies, like Cox, the basic cable comes in on the same line as the Internet. I know that was true for them a year ago but I don't know about today,

I have cox internet but not their TV service (I have U-verse). There is a filter on my line at the service box that prevents me from getting a digital signal for TV. However, I have confirmed that I still get the basic channels.

There's a filter on your box/pole. You can get bare basic channels only.
