Reviews tend to repeatedly bash the horrible service. Just wondering if it is that bad and if the food makes up for it. The menu looks interesting.

No service problems for us at a Sunday dinner a few years back.

Thanks. That's definitely one thing I would get.

I went there weekly for the three months I was in NOLA. I never thought the service was bad.

That said, it's relaxed service. The restaurant is not formal dining. You shouldn't expect that kind of service.

Sunday brunch is always a winner every time I've been. One of my favorite menus for brunch in NOLA matter of fact. Ambiance is chilled and kinda has Early Sunday eats written all over it for me.

Good. This is what I'm looking for when traveling alone on business. Decent food, but at a place where I don't feel uncomfortable eating alone at a white table cloth venue. I usually end up eating at the bar whenever I'm in those situations.

I haven't tried August yet either and I really want to, but I'm leaning more toward Luke because of what I said above.

Does anyone know if there's a bar area at August where I wouldn't feel uncomfortable eating alone?

Matzo Ball soup good. Hamburger good. Everything else is hit or miss.

Service blows. Full of tourists. You can do better in that area (Annunciation, Herbsaint, Desi Vegas, Capdeville and Borgne to name a few)

The bar at August is totally separate from the main dining area so you wouldn't feel awkward at all.

The bar at Luke is more fun. Chat with the shuckers. Always a good time.

An uncultured and uncouth redneck buddy went a few weeks ago. Actually he was drug there by his sisters. They being well more versed of the ways of dining and society. He farms grain and prefers Bud Light and Johnny's pizza. Anyway he went in with a bad attitude. He wanted to go to Mother's, where he always goes. Besides the "Luke's" had two of those dots over the U like the Russians do. He's never ate Russian in his life, and he didn't want to start now. Then the waiter informed him that not only did they not have Bud Light, but they didn't have any regular domestic beer at all. All they had was that queer beer. He's seething sipping an unsweet tea when the waiter takes their order. He points to a menu item that contained the word duck (claims to have not been able to read the rest of the menu cause it was in Russian). So when the waiter places a small plate of pate in front of him instead a big arse bowl with a duck and gravy his opinion of "Luke's" was flushed down the shitter. 0/10. frick that place.

I've gotten a cheeseburger and a dozen oysters for lunch there once and thoroughly enjoyed it.

OMG... That is priceless, and maybe because the mindset is so very familiar, but I can just see the whole thing playing out in vivid detail.

The place is very good.

If the service was "horrible", Luke wouldn't be as successful as it is.

You need to cut back on the LSD or shrooms just a tad.
