After getting muddy and cursing for 30 minutes when all I had to do was turn a hand valve - there was no other conclusion I could draw other than I am moron when it comes to plumbing.

I had done things like reset a toilet and replace a section of bad pipe - so its not like I know nothing about plumbing - I just don't know the first thing about plumbing

That reminds me, I just went through the same kind of frustration w/ an alternator belt. I was trying like hell to use a screwdriver to leverage the belt back on it's tracks. It was real close to going on, but the fricker never did. I know the neighbors had to hear me cursing my arse off.

As it turns out, I only needed to pull back on the tensioner pulley (which I had no idea existed, until I finally checked out youtube) and the work was done in literally 15 seconds.

I STILL get frustrated thinking about it.

Its amazing how much missing one step can set you back. I tigtened the belt tensioner once without loosening the bolt underneath it that sets the thing in place. The tensioner bolt of course broke - and it took me two days to figure out why. I had changed the alternator on the almost the exact same engine before (different car) - figured I knew what I was doing - forgot one simple step like an idiot - and spent a day finding a replacement bolt.

The use of a one belt(serpentine) design is pure evil to me. The belt breaks and every system in your car is shut down. Old cars had three or four belts and when one broke it was one system that was disabled.

I am a graduate of LSU in Electrical Engineering.

After I had been out of school for a few years, I bought by first house. I decided to floor my attic area to provide storage, so I also decided to put some lights up there.

Recalling my EE background, I just knew that black = ground, right???

Guess I should have paid more attention to the power part of the curriculum instead of just the electronics part.

If you shut the water off to your house, in order to ensure the pipes still won't bust, you must blow each line with compressed air. If you don't free the lines of water you're asking for trouble. Your better off running water than shutting it off and not blowing the lines.

But if the inner one broke, you have to remove all of them just to replace one.

I had a serpentine belt break on a jeep once when we were way out in the middle of the desert in New Mexico. I'd heard about using panty hose and luckily my wife had on a pair. I tied it around the main engine pulley and the water pump. It got us back to the next Autozone without overheating.

That might be a good story if your wife ever finds a strange pair of panty hose in your vehicle.

I had 1970 camaro when I was in college. I started getting an intermittent overheat light. I changed the cap, thermostat, coolant, flushed the radiator. Still kept getting the light. I figured it had to be a cracked head.

I pull the heads off, have them magnafluxed and they're OK. I put them back on, put the intake on, then drop the distributor mount bolt down the distributor hole. I pull the intake back off and fish the bolt out. Spend a hour cleaning off the sealant from the heads and intake. Put the intake back on. Carefully put the distributor in.

While I was hooking up the wiring, I happened to feel a spot on the temp sensor wiring WHERE IT HAD BEEN SHORTING OUT ON THE VALVE COVER!!! It's not the most stupid thing I've ever done, but it's definitely in the top 10.
