Don't know where to put this, I figured here on the money talk, don't know if this really is in you guys wheel house or not. Anyway, yet another national chain came forward (Michaels?). Thousands of their customers have been hacked. Neiman (sp?) Marcus and target had ASTRONOMICAL security breaches. Target had like 80 million customers compromised. Hell, I didn't even know that many people shopped at target.
Anyway, this seams to be happening at an alarming rate. Someone has to pay for this right? What's going to happen to the credit card financial industry (if that's the right word?) going forward? I mean this has to be billions and billions of dollars and no doubt the customer is protected.
Are we seeing the fail or fall of the credit or debit card? I am going to go out on a limb and just assume that every bank card number is sitting in some dudes basement computer in Bulgaria or some shite. They could at least hit iTunes or the App Store. That would at least be a little humorous.
Just curious to see the responses.

This.
Right now the burden is on credit card issuers since they offer what amounts to free insurance, that puts lots of pressure on them to get payments right.

I already have one card with a chip. Hopefully they all are soon.
Thing is it is chip and signature while Europe uses chip and pin

I believe a PIN system would work, or any other similar data record that isn't stored for ACH batch processing. Designing systems that authenticate your PIN, but never store it would work IMO.
They will likely have to keep address information on the card for processing.

this wont be the end thats for sure. even if you get a new card with a chip that doesnt stop someone hacking your info through some other avenue.
you info is everywhere. get used to hearing this for some time until the cc companies get tired of loosing money . but they make billions so they really could care less.

Am I the only one that uses Lifelock around here? I've had them for a little over 2 yrs and it has prevented two attempts at credit cards applications being opened in my name. No fraudulent charges in that time but I feel pretty secure that I would know about it if it happened or was attempted.
