Bad News Bears (1977)

I got a problem with this movie. The kids are from California and going to a baseball game in Houston and not ONE of their parents goes to the game? They just let them go with the coach who they never met and who they think are going with them

.. In Breaking Training.
Leak is the one who drives and they all tell an elaborate lie and get away with it. Probably not too far fetched back then considering no cell phones and stuff like that.

It was a different time back then.
In 1981, my softball team went to Biloxi (about 15-18 kids) and the two coaches were our only chaperones. It wasn't really a big deal to the parents.
However, our parents knew the coaches over the course of a season or two, so there's that.
It's really not that far-fetched of an idea for 1977.

Is it not plausible to think that the kids did not have wealthy parents, and thus there was not enough money for both parents and kids to make the trip to Houston?

Buttermaker promised free pool cleaning services if any problems arose

If I remember right the 2 little Mexican kids' parents, who spoke no English, gave their 2 kids $5 to eat on for several days.
