I was at 10% for 2013.
Not sure how this compares to most, so I'm asking.

You might want to consider taking on more risk if you're young

This seems awfully low.

What is in your portfolio?

I ended up 33.2% last year and that wasn't uncommon.

Think I was about 29 percent. I had no idea it was that good until I met with our advisor at the end of the year. But seems about normal for everyone

That's very, very low for 2013. I've got a target fund, and foreign investment fund, a s&p fund, and a large cap fund. All pretty common for a 401k with 30-35 years left to retirement. My return was 24%.

I'm much more flexible with my Roth IRA and got 31% with half going toward more mutual funds and the other half with my own stock picks.

If you can average that over 30 years you'd be very happy.

Pretty sure that is his allocation.

To OP
Your position(substantial) in Emerging Markets probably hurt you this year. I know it was the weakest performer I had this year.

That is correct, Brah.

Emerging Markets is the allocation I was most optimistic about... Hahahahhaha

I'm gonna have to make some changes.

The funds I get to choose from are mediocre and I got 28% in 13'. My wife's choices are better than mine and she got 32%...

Mine was 12.3% last year, 13.7% - 2012, -9.4 - 2011 (got in plan mid year and had a rough time to start). My SEP IRA made almost 40%. I'm a little more aggressive there.
