I really think this will end up hurting the Catholic elementary schools in the long run. CBS and HC have already announced that they're looking into adding elementary schools.

Why? It makes sense to get everyone on the same page. Never understood why some schools were 7-12, some were 8-12, and some were 9-12.
You go to K-7 then High School or go to k-12. Simplifies and unifies the Archdiocese.

Well I'm glad I attended Christian Brothers when I did

I believe CBS and HC should get passes on this. I believe HC has started in 5th grade since the 1800s so to impose this rule on them now is silly. I know that Brother Martin added a 7th grade not too long ago and this was becoming vogue for many Catholic High Schools and that is what prompted this ruling. It is idiotic to punish CBS and HC, though, in my opinion.

Were the brother still there when you attended? That school is a shell of it's former self with the faculty it currently has. I considered sending my son but did not because it is no longer the same school.

damn, so no more 8th grade graduations.

They def. should. If not, they should just break out on their own.
They run a school out of what is basically a large estate in the middle of City Park. Seems like it will be tough to add buildings and parking where they are. This is just one of the problems I have with the decision.

This is bm's third year with a 7th grade. They will comply and drop it following next year.

I believe the only brother left is Brother Lawrence and he teaches part time. The principal is a layman as well as the rest of the staff. I realize the academics are well above standard but the experience would not be the same without brothers beating arses and letting boys be boys.

What's the better middle school alternative, in your view, though?

So if Holy Cross doesn't comply, the school which is run by the order of the Brothers of Holy Cross is going to lose it's Catholic "identity"? Right. What a bunch of bureaucratic morons. They're just as laughable as state or federal bureaucracies.

Archdiocese has the final say on all schools in their geographic area.
Again, this is to clear up the system and have a unified school system. There are tons of issues with transfer issues not being the same from school to school, etc.

Alright, that was a little harsh. But the dude was dick. All the time. I think he smiled once the whole year.
We gave him a bottle of red when I went to pick up my report card and he cracked a smile.
My fifth grade year was his Diamond Jubilee, and when they took us on retreat, we were told we were the worst class he had ever seen in 50 years.

The Archdiocese is going to have a tough job on their hands the next few years with the elementary schools. The perception of the quality of the education has changed over the years. Families are constantly moving to the Northshore because they see the quality of the public school education and they can't justify the yearly increases in tuition at Catholic schools. Since these schools will always rely on donations and high tuition, parents often have leverage in the running of these schools. Some school administrations are able to handle the parents better than others.

something needed to be done. its ridiculous for 6th/7th graders to be in the same buildings as jr/sr. it was taking a toll on the catholic grammar schools in the area as most were leaving
