I mean the obvious opinion is no.

An unbiased observer would consider things like:
-Defending the rim. AD is #1 in the league in blocks, Griffin is below average for his position.
-Griffin scores a touch more (22.6/20.2)
-Rebounding is nearly identical.
-Potential is very similar for both, considering ability and execution.
-Court awareness and hustle are similar.
-FG%/FT% are both similar.
-Overall defense leans heavily toward AD.

Now here are what really separates them:
1. Chris Paul, enough said.
2. Experience

Based on these criteria and disregarding injuries, AD is the better player. IMO

eta. I didn't include age because it wasn't part of the question. (BG-24/AD/20)

Griffin has a more established offensive game, but other than that AD blows him out the water

How so? The guy can't really shoot consistently. Other than Chris Paul making him open for the throw down, what does he do?

I would rather AD, but they play different positions right now. Why compare a PF to a Center?

AD defends better because his wingspan is more than 6 inches longer than Griffin's. They are tough to compare to each other because they play very different types of games.

Griffin is pretty underrated these days, but I'll take Davis over him with no hesitation.

Not really though. Outside of Lebron, they are arguably the 2 most athletic players in the game today.

Well they're both versatile PFs. I think its a fair comparison. Only difference is bulk.

Davis has a lot more going for him, but this board general dislike of Griffin makes him underrated on here

Dude's a stud. He's probably the best face up, drive the lane, "above the rim" PF in the league. He's a very good rebounder and has improved his defense, FT, and shooting range this year.

But Davis can do everything Griffin can do, and a lot more. He just brings more to the table, and is younger and has a better attitude and is a better for the "team" concept.

Everything you said is spot on.

Here's a better question if you want to really get gritty..
Assume same teams and identical contracts:
You're NO, Would you trade AD for BG right now?
You're LA, Would you trade BG for AD right now?

After answering those questions, THEN answer this question:
Who is the better player?

I would say no to both of those honestly

With Jordan, the Clippers don't need the rebounding, length, and defense Davis brings. And Griffin can murder people in a fast-paced pick and roll offense like the Clips run.

And we would never trade for Griffin, although it isn't as laughable a trade as some might say on here. But he is our baby, and is a real game-changer/cornerstone kind of player, while Griffin is a bit more of a secondary option, one-trick pony kind of guy.

I mean if Davis is the second best PF in the league behind Love, Griffin is a close third IMO (which Aldridge right behind him)

I think the Clippers would definitely trade Griffin for Davis. As said previously, Davis probably has the third highest (maybe 4th) trade value in the league behind LeBron and Durant.

You really wouldn't swap BG for AD if you're LA? I understand your reasoning to a degree, but you just have to consider the circumstances they're in. AD is asked to be a leader at 20 years old. Griffin is a piece to a pretty damned good team, CP is the engine out there.

Not trying to troll you or anything, but unless you include injury potential, (which kills AD's value here), I can't understand why LA wouldn't swap them out.

I dunno, you might be right

I just think LAC values Griffin for his offense. Davis a really good athlete and has great length, but he isn't anywhere close to as fast and strong as BG, and isn't quite the threat in the post or around the basket as BG. Griffin is a force on offense, and I think the Clippers would value that more than the defense and length Davis has, with Jordon already back there at the 5.

I mean he's just raw on offense. he's got a nice jumpshot, but LAC already has jump shooters everywhere. Davis is great but his back to the basket game is not there yet. Griffin's is much much better.

It's not like BG is squeaky clean in the injury department either though.

missed his rookie year, his 2nd year of actual play time, he missed 16 games as well.

Griffin is like Amare when he first got into the league. Big, fast and athletic. When Griffin loses that first step and leaping ability, like Amare has, he'll be worthless, like Amare.
And both don't play defense.
They are very similar players early in their career.

I'll take AD and Aldridge any day over Griffin.
