It's the 3rd best selling album all time world wide.

Tied for best selling in the US.

Every person born in the mid 40's to mid 50's bought that album....then bought the cassette.....then bought the CD.......and is now downloading it off iTunes.

Because it's a great collection of great music by a classic American rock & roll band.

"Hey Dude, get out of my cab, man!"

The cab driver is the real hero of that movie.

Same goes for people born in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and probably the 90's too.

It's rare to find any album, even a greatest hits album, that is packed from beginning to end with one great song after the next.

To be standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona is one of the things on my bucket list.

Two thoughts come to mind:

1) Access and exposure to most music was limited to FM radio. I don't think one had the choices one does today.

2) The Eagles had a cross-genre appeal .. pop, country, rock and 'hippie,' though not the Dude.

i think this is it. And it was pretty good stuff. Most crossover music tends to be pretty mediocre IMO

My dad is an Eagles fan, and I was a huge Eagles fan as a young child. I was probably the only 9 year old excited for the Hell Freezes Over HBO special.
