I am thinking of getting it due to the lack of internet service in my area.

If you have any experience using a normal broadband connection through ATT or your cable company, Hughesnet is going to be hot garbage to you.

My parents have it because they also live in an area with few options, and they don't seem to mind it. So, if you're like them and your daily Internet usage involves Facebook/Farmville, wordchums on your iPhone, and reading articles about beekeeping, then perhaps it'll be fine for you.

Hughes Net sucks hairy arse. But if you have no other option and don't like watching videos online...

I work in that business and can answer your question. Satellite internet has come a long way in the past two years. It gets a bad wrap because of the old days

Hughes gen 4 is good but IMO go with exede from wild blue

All my guys sell both and they all said exede hands down is better. Speeds average 15-18mb and 2-3 upload

It's very reliable. Have them bundle with directv and it saves them $10 a month

I can have one of my guys do the install too.

my aunt and uncle have it and ays it sucks. My mom has nexus and it is ok unless the wind is blowing real hard. She is thinking of switching to dish net when her contract is up.

They live in Tallulah la, and I see you are in monroe so its probably the same choices.

FYI dishnet is the same thing just branded as dishnet

They either chose gen 4 satellite with Hughes equipment or exede service. Its all throttled at lower speeds for the lower price that dish offers

I'm telling you tell them to go with exede. They will be much happier

What's it run a month when bundled with direct tv. This would be my only option at my duck camp and I already have direct tv. My iPad gets good service and phone service is good if that gives me any options

Unless you live in the middle of Wyoming, or Utah..someplace like that, you should be able to get a good broadband service with a mobile hotspot. As far as that goes, My Verizon Broadband, works great almost anywhere, that includes, the middle of Wyoming and Utah.

I have exede. Don't remember exactly what it costs but it isn't horrible.

Service has been great. It isn't cable but it gets the job done. Plus you're uncapped overnight...like 12-6 or something.

Yeh, but your data usage limit is low for what you pay.

I live out in the sticks and I have excede. the lowest package is $60 a month. I have to admit it runs pretty fast. But like anything satellite It is not extremely reliable. But it does work good other than the dropoff in bad weather.

My plan is 5gs per month @ 50bucks, $10 extra per Gig after that. I use the internet quite a bit, and have only gone over my limit once in 2 years.

I live in Columbia, LA and have tried at&t broadband and it sucked arse. I called dish and they said it wasn't available in my area. I just got hughes net for 60 a month for 10mbs download at 20 gigs a month with no overage fees, the speed just slows down.

If you are just surfing message boards, 5 GB is fine. Our family streams Netflix and HBOGo a lot. I could eat up 5 GB of usage with one HD movie stream.

As an example, we have AT&T UVerse....if you read the fine print, they give you 500GB of data usage for $45 per month. Cellular hotspots are outrageous in price when it comes to data allotment/price paid, but will definitely suffice for some people (your situation, for example); In some instances, it's the best option for internet service.
