Thinking about watching captain Phillips tonight...........is it worth a watch? Much action? Boring? Slow?
Go.

Worth a watch, for sure. Overall, it was good. Not great. Decent action. Not boring, not slow.
I don't know what all the hype is about re: the movie or Hanks' performance. Both were good, but neither was Oscar nom-worthy IMO.

It was very good. Well made. Tom Hanks and the head pirate were really good

Very good movie. No doubt and Tom Hanks is great in the role.

I thought that it was just ok. Too long and parts were slow. The Somali guy Skinny was probably the best part of the movie.

I dug it a lot. I like the way Paul Greengrass directs a movie. Obviously knowing the story and the outcome takes a ton of tension away, but I thought the climax still paid off. Thought the time flew by, and Hanks was incredible during the end. Guy that played Muse was awesome too. It's not the best movie of 2013, but a very solid flick. Definitely recommend it.

SPOILER
If there was any problem I had, it was that I thought from the beginning of the hijacking Mesa seemed to be rather competent and pretty smart when it came to Phillps tricks on the Maersk Alabama. He was not portrayed as some idiot Somali pirate, yet it did not take much to trick him off the lifeboat with a very simple promise of money and a meeting with his village elders.
I understand that the film has to tell the story but I found it odd that Mesa seemed to know exactly how to handle a certain situation, but was clueless or incompetent the next. Although I think the lack of food and water and no ventilation in the boat may have had a hand in this.

I want to see it. A bunch of my friends said it was really good.
I stopped to Redbox it tonight but the one I stopped at wasn't working and it's too cold for me to keep searching.
I'll definitely check it out.

Spoiler
I would also add that in a real life situation like the one he was in, any potential control he had grew more and more slim as the options he had continued to run out. He had control on the ship because he multiple options with which to proceed. On the lifeboat, the options dwindled down significantly as more and more time passed. He even said to Phillips at one point: "I've come to far, Irish". Indicating that he even knew that he was loosing any control of the situation that he had. In addition to what you mentioned about the conditions on the lifeboat, I think it was easy to see that he was grasping for any straw that came his way, including the "meeting" with the elders.
Couple all of that with the fact the character portrayed was actually an 18 yr old, I think it is safe to say a level of immaturity played a hand in it all as well.
