P226 or similarly priced 1911?

Just got a 9mm CZ75. I now have the itch to get more. I have a problem of picking favorites and not using anything else. (I have 4 watches but only wear 1 98% of the time) So if I get a more expensive handgun I would have to choose between the two.

Anybody else with this problem or do you share the wealth and buy lots of guns?

Get the 1911. I'm saying this because I want a 1911, but there's no way I'm going to pay that much for a gun right now. So, I will hopefully live vicariously through your 1911 purchase.

My brother buys up rifles. He can't have enough of them. Me? CC handguns. I could own every single one. I love handguns that can be CC.

Get the P226 in DAK so you'll still want a 1911. Or you could look at the stepchild HK P30 and have a bit more concealable gun (shorter barrel).

I would buy a used P226 and subsequently buy a high end (Dan Wesson or higher) 1911 when I was in a position to do so.

As a general rule, I don't pay full price for new sigs, especially these days.

I don't remember liking those. Cabelas had a few 226's (229 can't remember) for cheap. I think they were LE trade in's.

Haven't seen a used sig that I couldn't buy for a miniscule amount more for a new one.

I see them all the time for reasonable prices. Used and CPOs for a couple hundred less than new. Moreover, Sig's declining QC is well documented, so having an older version is not something I mind in the least if it has been well maintained.

I bought a Ruger 1911 "commander size" for $610 this week. Great gun for the price.

Agree, Simon, great gun but crappy, cheap, front sight. Many owners, including me, have had them break. I am having a tritium front sight installed now. And for the OP, get the 1911. Every pistol lover should own one.

What about a Sig 1911? Best of both worlds?

If you just bought a metal framed 9mm there's no reason to get another one this soon.

Go snag a nice American 1911 and enjoy it. There's nothing like shooting a 1911.

Best gun for the money in this category is the Ruger SR1911 or SR1911CMD. It's amazing.

EDIT: If you prefer a different American 1911, Sig, S&W, Kimber, Colt, and Springfield are also all great.

I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet, but I may look into a tritium front sight.

I have read that if you have a problem with the front sight, Ruger will replace it and pay for the shipping. I didn't do that as I did not want the same front sight as before. As Bapple said, for the price, it is a great pistol. Start it off with round nose, ball ammo and break it in with that. You should be good to go.
