In a food plot at the camp in mississippi about 10 miles from the old Camp Vanguard. Ive called the LSU War History department to try to get some info on it and how to go about safe handling of it and all I get is dumb clueless student workers telling me they have no clue. Has anyone every found one and if so what do I need to do. I currently have it down in an old wash out in the woods in case its a live round.
I have pics but im on the cell and have no way to post.

I would bust off a couple rounds at it.

Why would people be shooting off mortars in MS?

As dumb as this sounds, it's the first thing I would do. Wouldn't be able to resist

Our property borders an old WW2 aerial bombing range. I'm always tempted to go root around with a metal detector to see what I could find.

Yes. Have found as part of Unexploded Ordnance work our company does. My advice is don't touch or move....but it sounds like you already did.
Is there a local Nat Guard you could contact? I would try that or military installations (don't know where you are) for help.

I think you are supposed to mail all those back to the white house or closest federal building.
