I just read that TV, cable, and blu-ray transmit at or below 60Hz, and therefor going with 120 or 240Hz is pointless but for gaming.

I am in the market for new TV, and not going 4k until it is better supported.

Any tech gurus able to confirm?

Not a guru, but back in October I bought a Panasonic 60ST60 Plasma (60") and I freakin' love it.

Idk, but I know my eyes CAN tell a difference above 60hz watching a football game.

Yes you can. 120hz and above makes everything look fake as hell.

Very hard to watch the first week.

After that you can't go back to less than 120.

I just read that alot of people say this regarding television broadcasts.

Fwiw, they say you can scale 120Hz TV's to 60Hz to watch cable and DVD's.

I think what you are referring to is known as "the soap opera effect". If you turn off the motion blur or whatever the brand specific name for it is in the menu on the tv it will fix that "look". Some tv's let have a low-medium-high or off.
