Wish they would have named it the .264 nosler, but whatever.
Any chance this one catches on? 6.5's have traditionally had mediocre popularity at best in the US, despite being immensely popular in europe and boasting very high B.C.'s and usually mild recoil.
It looks to be very similar to the 6.5-06

It's a little hotter than the .264 win mag, which was a well known barrel burner but a great long range cartridge, as is the 6.5x284.
I bet the muzzle blast on this new thing is brutal.

Love my 6.5 Creed, I think with time that round will become more popular here.

Sadly, probably not……And this is coming from someone who's killed more deer with a 6.5 Contender barrel than any other gun. Sounds like a rebirth of the 264 Win Mag. The 264 WM didn't make it the first time around; I doubt the 26 Nosler will do much better.

I'm not sure why all new 6.5s have to be barn burners.
IMO the 6.5 shines in calibers like 6.5x55 and .260 rem. Use the high BC and sectional density to get good performance with light recoil and modest velocity, not to stretch the range as far as possible.
Cartridges like this just don't appeal to enough people IMO. Combine that with people being burnt out on new cartridges (thanks WSMs) and you have another failure of a 6.5 on the market.

Well stated sir and very true. 6.5x55 or 260 kills em just as dead in standard actions with readily available ammo. Why reinvent the wheel?

Part of me hopes that 6.5mm rounds will stay off the beaten path.
After the scare I sold most of my .308 and components in favor of 6.5 creed so that I could still practice and shoot long range during the next panic and get components to reload easier. The definition of frustrating was trying to practice shooting with a .308 1 year ago.

Zeroed at 350 yards, the 26 Nosler® has a Point Blank Range of 0-415 yards. Loaded with the 129gr ABLR, the 26 Nosler® retains as much velocity at 400 yards as the 260 Remington® produces at the muzzle.

I have a .257 wby mag that produces 3400 fps at the muzzle with a 115g bullet.
Why would I want this 6.5? In 3 yrs I'll still be able to find .257 Wby mag bullet and won't be able to find these anywhere.

My 6.5 JDJ Contender barrel uses a 120 Nosler BT at only 2400 fps. Nevertheless, it's DEADLY. I've killed close to 30 big game animals w/ it, mostly whitetail deer, but also 2 pronghorn antelope, 2 mule deer, a bunch of prairie dogs and one turkey. quote:True.
