I live in BR. Should I list it on theadvocate.com? I haven't had to sell a car in years so I don't know what the best outlets are these days.

Put a for sale sign on it and park in a high traffic area. That is if you aren't driving it..

ETA: or lower the price

If you have them priced to move they will usually sell on CL in a few days tops. If your trying to get top dollar or retail blue book value it will take forever if it sells at all. Only thing you can do is try to increase the # of peopel that see your add by adding multiple CL cities or other classifieds, but i find that for the most part CL is a first stop for most people on things like that unless its a collectible type car.

I just bought a for sale sign and will put it on car. I work on Industriplex.

I have a 2003 Infiniti FX35 that I'm asking $11,000 for and a 2008 BMW 328i convertible asking $21,000.

I've got an offer from Car Max on the convertible (18,000) and a trade in offer (16,000) from Acura of BR. Both are lower than I hoped to get.

How unrealistic am I being?

CarMax is giving you a good price on the BMW. Clean retail is under $21,000, average trade in is just over $16,000.

For the FX, clean retail is $13,000 and average trade is $9,000.

You should expect average trade prices.

Last time I sold a car I had it listed in News On Wheels and I think Autobytel.com. I ended up selling it to a guy from out of state that saw it on autobytel.

Acura offered us $5,000 on the trade for the Infiniti. I was hoping to sell it for more. I guess I should go ahead and lower the asking price below $10k.

We are also wanting to sell our truck but there is an error (not in our favor) on the Car Fax report. I have no idea how long they will take to correct the discrepancy.

We rarely buy and sell cars but decided to start anew all at once!

That sounds about right for an 11 year old vehicle. You may be able to sell it for a couple thousand more, but it also may take you a while to find a buyer that wants that.

The issue with selling cars is every seller thinks their car falls into the high range of the price, and that is usually not the case unless you have a very low mileage well maintained vehicle, or some sort of desirable trim level or model.

I agree. I just love my Infiniti so I think it's worth top dollar!lol I had intentions of only keeping it for 5 years but loved it so much (way more than my BMW) that I kept it for 10 years.

I do think of the 3 vehicles the Infiniti will be hardest to sell unless I almost give it away.

Maybe you could sell it to one of your kids for cheap it give it to them as a graduation present. I sold a car to my mom for cheap because she liked it so much.

My kids (all grown) are driving newer vehicles than me! I have posted them for sale on my facebook page hoping to get a sale from friends who know I take care of my cars.

AutoTrader or Cars.com

Cars.com is free for 30 days and Autotrader is like $35 for 3 weeks.

I sold my car within 2 days of being on Autotrader and got 3500 more than I was offered Trade In.

If you are buying a new vehicle, don't underestimate the tax incentive on trading in.

In LA, that only about 9%. She more than likely would be better off finding a private buyer if the need to sell is not immediate. Of course, some people just don't like the hassle of selling on their own/

Pretty much the only reason to trade, versus private sale, IMHO, convenience.
