Looking for something a little different and have always had my eye them. What kind of price are they going for now and I know ammo is more expensive but is it available? How about overall quality. My best built guns I own are the HK p30L and HK 45.

All I know is it is insanely expensive since only FN has rights to it.

To me it feels like a toy and not worth the $1k most charge for it. But then again I guess there's some novelty to it.

Those will surpass the FiveseveN by leaps and bounds in terms of build quality.

I offer no help other than to confirm bapples conclusions. I looked into it briefly and decided it is a no, for the time being.

Academy has been carrying American Eagle 5.7x28 for about $23/ box of 50. Still not cheap but less than what FN charges.

I've been in the market for one myself. Had the opportunity to shoot one a while back and I really liked it. Excellent gun shooting wise. The ammo is more expensive but I have several guns I don't regularly shoot that often so not the biggest concern.
As far as build quality I can't say one or the other for long lasting effects. I'm just giving my opinions from the 2 days I got to shoot it. It did feel "like a toy" but you lose that feeling the first time you pull the trigger. I shot about 150 rounds through it and didn't have a single issue. My biggest problem getting one is availability. They have them online but you are probably gonna spend over the $1200 mark. I'm hoping to get one for $1200 or less.

I'll have one some day. Really cool round. Saw a video of my little cousin blowing up watermelons with ease at 100 yards.

Guy I work with uses it as his carry pistol. I know it's not a recommended defense round, but 21 bullets is 21 bullets.

Eta: like any round that has a following but isn't mainstream, ammo is readily available online. 43-44 cents per round on the low end

Thanks guys. I wont shoot it a lot like a 9mm or .22 so ammo cost isn't a huge deal, more so the availability. I knew they were in the 1k range, wish HK made one

I feel your pain. I've been wanting one really bad but the $1500 price tags ran me off. I'd really like to find one for $1200 but it won't be much longer, I'll cave and spend whatever it takes.

They're sweet man. A 23 grain bullet can push upwards of 2800 fps. That's screaming.

400 ft lbs of energy is in the 9mm neighborhood. FN 57 is what the secret service carries, for whatever that's worth.

Eta: those ballistic numbers are from longer barrels, so obviously there would be a drop off when shooting from the stock Fn pistol. Still a laser round for a pistol.

I was going to get one a while back. I seem to remember the prices being significantly lower than $1200 on them

Well just after looking briefly at impact guns website they range from $1100-1200 depending on model. So yeah they are up there.

Link? I've found them on gun broker for about $1300. The only one I've ran across IRL for sale was $1700 about 8 months ago.

Interesting. Maybe FN only has rights to the armor piercing stuff that we undeservingly can't get for some reason.

And by the way, the 5.7x28 is actually a 5.56mm bullet. There's a whole forum dedicated to reloading just that round because it is such a pain in the arse. FN tried to make it as difficult as possible.

And if you shoot the pistol, good luck finding brass. That thing slings brass about 40 feet. Go watch Colion Noir's review of it to see what I mean.

Guy brought one to my buddies place to shoot a hog in the trap. Not impressed. I don't know how many rounds to the head it took to finally end it, but it was a lot.

Poor shot placement probably has more to do with that than caliber. I've seen a single .22lr take down a 2300lb. bull. I've also seen a 900lb steer take a full mag of .22's to bring him down. Quit shooting at just the head and pick out the kill spot

Agreed. It just didn't impress me. We've shot them with pretty much everything Compared to standard pistol rounds the damage didn't seem, to me, to be as severe.

I think it's a neat round. If you've got the money and the want, go for it. But in my experience, which is admittedly limited, I would go another route.

My friend owns one. He sort of bought it because it sounded badass and it was on a Call of Duty game. He regrets buying it. It's too expensive to shoot and feels weird.

My dad has two. Its a tack driver but very high priced.
30 round clip and pie plate grouping at 100 yds is nice thiugh.
I believe secret service uses them.
Pretty damn pricey.

Imo best bang for buck is SR1911. All day

That being said, my dad may want to sell one. How much you willing to spend?

My grandfather is an attorney and carries his 50/50 b/w a custom left handed glock(? not sure) with trigger work.

I've shot it a couple times at the range. A lot of fun, but the ammo is expensive.
