Just got some of the guns from my wife's dad's gun safe. Previously was given his Browning BLR 81 post 1984 (Japanese steel model) by my MIL. Today I picked up his Marlin 22 and Mossberg12 ga pump. I will get everything else when I can get a dolly for a safe. He had all the equipment for reloading ammo. My question is this, he passed away in 1993. How long is the ammo good for"

Considering it was kept in decent conditions, it'll be good til you shoot it.

If kept dry and not a lot of changes temps around (he kept indoors and not in a storage unit or outdoor shed) it should be fine.

I just shot some 20 yr old .30-30 last weekend and it was dead on. It had some white flaking on the lead tips but flew fine

AS long as it was dry stored, for ever.

I went skeet shooting a few years back with 30-40 year old lead shot. The wad completely blew apart about 2" out of the barrel on every shot

He had half a brick of 22 LR for the Remington 22. Just worried since it is a rimfire. No 12 ga. All his guns were in the safe. His reloading stuff was in there as well. I would love to get into reloading brass but at the moment have no clue on it. He had a pretty nice collection. He used to re-blue,fix and replace stocks and do custom checker work. My wife and I found about 50 lbs of brass casings in boxes in the attic. My biggest question mark was the ammo. I just had no idea if it was still serviceable.

Oh yeah, checked the 22 when I pulled it out of the safe. 1 in the chamber with a full stick. Emptied the gun. It has been in there since 1993
