IMO the Catholic Church should preemptively renounce its tax-exempt status.

If it did that then they would be deemed as a private business. Like all others, they will be sued and they will lose.

See all of the other business that all ready have. Not only that, Churches are already losing in courts. One was forced in NJ to allow a gay wedding on it's grounds!

Not sure why that's so.

Eh. Purely religious organizations are not treated like Hobby Lobby.
Either way, the truth is the truth. The Church won't neglect to live the truth in fear of persecution. Bring it on, if that's what it takes.

Hope so. It's time for these profit making corporations to join the rest of us in paying taxes.

What kind of profit do you think the average church makes and where does that profit go?

Perform no.

Recognize idk. like if they had a gay employee who was legally married and they refused to cover them under their health plan? that would be an interesting case.

I'm pretty sure it's not mandatory to pay for church services like you would for a loaf of bread or a tank of gas. Therefore, how can you make the claim of a profit making corp.? You sound jealous of the pastor who might live in a bigger house than you do.

I don't know.

But what is stopping gays from forming their own church?

I refuse to participate in this thread beyond this post because there are some TD posters who are eaten up with the gay and making a bigger deal out of homosexuality than it actually is.

Yeah I can't imagine why anyone would be worried about this these days.

Never took you as one to be against separation of church and state.

Oh, so they pay for furnishings in their churches (which are taxed) and pay their staff (which is taxed). This is all done with money that comes from donations from incomes that are also taxed.

It seems you just hate religion.

Besides, I asked about the "average" church. The examples you present are anything but average.

Amen to those photos. Pardon me for waxing religious, but would Jesus even recognize the church of today?
