Like they do in college for targeting, they are throwing way too many flags thinking they saw helmet to helmet contact.

This penalty should be an automatic review so it doesn't cost the team 15 yards for a legal hit.

Agree. Should be reviewable.

It appears as though any overly aggressive hit automatically gets a flag and then they try to determine what penalty are they going to call it!

The play would stand as called. Primary contact was shoulder to shoulder, but the shoulder grazed the helmet. It was the correct call according to the rule.

so the defender is supposed to completely stop his momentum because the receiver went to the ground while the defender was aiming at the midsection?

Yeah, this wasn't called a helmet to helmet hit, it was called a blow to the head of a defenseless receiver which it was.

No, the defender's not supposed to lower his head and aim at anything. He's supposed to tackle the guy by wrapping his arms around a hip or leg.

It was a bad call, but all the saints fans please continue.

If the calls aren't going to be reviewed. The NFL should just call it like it is... The hit too hard flag

You realize you still get the 15 yard penalty after the review no matter the outcome of it.

what about the hit on that punt? it was helmet to helmet and he also ripped his helmet off by the face mask.

So no one can tackle above the waist now?

Yes, I realize in college the yards still count, but the player isn't ejected.

In the NFL you don't get ejected, so the flag should be picked up

Offensive players do this all the time. Especially when they have the ball. They lower their head and get what they can. ANd its supposed to be a penalty now, but its never called. The T-Rich rule. Havent seen it enforced yet this year.
