What did I just watch? It felt like a YouTube version of a two hour long episode of Cops. Then it just ends.

Other than that...I really enjoyed it. Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty good in it...so is the Mexican dude. I like him in most of his stuff, too. Wasn't he in Shooter and Flags of Our Fathers?

Michael Pena? Yup. He's pretty good.

There's a denouement scene.

I thought it was a pretty decent flick. Like how it didn't always follow a formula.

Yeah I definitely liked it. And that scene at the end with Pena telling the story about her wife's parents...is that what you're talking about?

I'm not complaining about it...I guess the format was highly unexpected by me. That's fine, but the whole time I guess I was like where's the structure? It didn't need it, though, because the dialog and chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Pena was near perfection.

Gyllenhaal's wifey in this is a cutie pie, too. "Janet from another planet"

Well, without revealing spoilers, iirc there's a couple scenes after the sudden violence that also contains a minor surprise.

The violence is definitely sudden and shocking, but I think the startling brutality of it keeps with the realism of the movie.

Crap...I already brought back the Redbox copy.

There was more after Pena's story?

Well, I was referring more to the aftermath of the shootout. The movie doesn't just suddenly end with the shootout.

I loved it. It was outside the box and kept me interested.

Pena

He was in the 9/11 movie also

I thought the movie did good potraying every day life of a cop, except I don't see the final scenes ever happening. I wish more cops were like them in the real world though.

Honestly can't agree with either of these statements. The acting is a tad better than Cops and the ending isn't abrupt. I liked it more than I expected, very well done and acted. The one quibble is:

Spoiler I guess.

It was pretty obvious that one of them would die. And then after that conclusion it was pretty obvious who it was going to be.

Not a spoiler but for some reason I've never liked Anna Kendrick in a movie but she did a great job in this one.

I didn't mean that as a slight to the acting. The acting was outstanding. But I meant I was caught off guard that it was filmed like a YouTube video. Then the structure of the film was like Cops, or like SouthLAnd. "Caught off guard" doesn't mean disappointed, FWIW.

Also, one thing I didn't like, was that the movie didn't tie up the "cowboy" story line with the human trafficking.
