So my brother and I are getting ready to purchase some acres side by side.

Primary uses will be:

Lots of shooting.

A cabin to hang out with the ladies, or escape the ladies, depending on if they're in sandwich making moods.

Some sort of freshwater to fish and mess around in.

Possible 4 wheeler riding

Paintball field for our friends.

Just a little place to get away, and escape the world.

His boss told them that kentwood had some land going for like 1k an acre. Honestly, I have ZERO idea what land goes for, or the best place to find it. I'd like it to be no more than an hour or so away from BR or Hammond if possible.

ANY advise will be much appreciated, and repaid in a trip to shoot guns and drink lots of free beer and bbq with us!

ETA: Main question: Where is a good spot to find land for those purposes, and how much should we expect to pay? We'd like to have 10-50 acres, depending on price.

Your best bet to find something for less than 5,000/acre would be just across the state line into MS. Centreville, Liberty, and all of that S. Mississippi area.

Eta: and yes, kentwood and everything east of it should be pretty cheap.
Fwiw, $1000/acre is dirt cheap. Make sure it doesn't flood. Lots of rivers and creeks in those parts.

1k/acre would be land that isnt navigable imo. 1k per acre is very low estimate i would think.

If you find land that cheap please lemme know!!

Thanks man, I just got off the phone with him, and posted what he was telling me. I figured there was no way in hell that was going to happen.
5-10 an acre is in the budget if we can find a good place to shoot.

Deer Cams so you can catch thieves.....I fricking hate those guys.

My fraternity brother owns 65 acre tree farm in the mountains of VA.

We all live 3 hrs away. Crooks came in and took everything...the grill, shotgun, refrig, AND all the copper wiring.

They broke thru two padlocks to get to the stone cellar.

We knew that we weren't around enough to catch them so one of our buddies (electrician) hot-wired the door knobs and left them unlocked.

Don't know if it shocked anyone, but hopefully it did.

Finally got deer cams and have pics of the guys and truck...no tag number needed. Turned pics into sherriff and Game Warden. Galax is a small town...caught em.

I would call Doug Rushing Realty like was previously posted.
I live north of Liberty,Ms and land is going for 3000-4000 an acre.If you find some much cheaper its usually clearcut, not replanted and the current owner will keep the mineral rights. There is alot of oil/gas activity up there right now.
