Deadspin thinks you should tip your bartender more

And, you should tip more than a dollar a drink. That dollar-a-drink guideline has been in place for decades—but your bartender's rent hasn't remained fixed since 1991, so why should her wage? You could mess around with fractions and coins and percentages, or you could just leave two bucks a drink. Do that instead. (Unless you get some complicated 7-step, $13-dollar cocktail; then you gotta tip $3.)

i think you're only supposed to tip 10% on drinks

Or I could tip $1 a drink unless it is more than one drink to my order.

Bartender gets 20% and not less than $2.
And 20% is probably outrageous, considering you have to go to the bartender to get served.

Their mom isn't charging them rent.

A beer is normally $3-4ish. I should tip more than 25-33%?
I'm a generous tipper being that I was in the service industry in high school. But more than 25% starts to be a little on the high side unless they did something that set them a part from the ordinary.

I think the whole tipping system is completely insane and their bosses should pay them a true wage then pass the price onto the consumer.

I had three drinks at the bar earlier. The bartender got a $4 tip because he slightly overpoured a small beer. Otherwise he'd have gotten $3. I was in there for about an hour and he served a dozen or so beers. Assuming everyone tipped a $1 per drink, he made out alright for mostly standing around and shooting the shite while washing glasses.
If it's a higher class cocktail place, I'm inclined to tip more.

The kind of bars I go to. The bartender can serve 25 beers in five minutes. If she nails a buck for every TWO. She is doing great. frick those Deadspin pricks. Bet they are worried about the Income Inequality Gap too.

If it's a $5 drink, the bartender isn't getting a $2 tip. Popping the top on a beer is not enough effort for a 40% tip.
Be happy with 20%, and go about your business.

If you have a regular bartender, it's the best long term investment to habitually over-tip.

You just hang out at the wrong places. The Bar you're looking for is called Kroger.

This is key, too.
a sazerac =/= a bud light, and the tip should reflect as such
