Per Barton Simmons. LINK

Definitely a home run either way for Vanderbilt.

I think Morris would be better for Vandy, IMO.

Morris will take it and do ok, not as good as Franklin

Then either Dabo will get fired or Beamer will retire and hell take te HC job at one of those

Experience with academic standards doesn't hurt that is for sure for Mason.

While I really want Chad to get the job, Mason would probably be my pick if I was Vandy. Stanford has a system on picking kids and really does an excellent job selling the Stanford education. They are the model that Vandy should be following imo

I'd be happy with either one. Mason would be my 1A and Morris 1B.

Eh I don't know about that. He's been mighty patient making the jump from OC to HC

But I agree with tmc that Mason is the better hire, though I want Morris to start his training for the A&M job ASAP

Personally, I'd prefer Mason. I think we have a much better chance with a defensive coach who hires a good OC who can score enough for a lockdown defense. We've already had some really solid defenses, and I think it's harder to build a high-powered offense that can just outscore everyone (see A&M's attempts).

With that said, I think David Williams will make the right call. He has a history of identifying great coaches. I just hope it's done by Saturday.

If Morris gets the gig, that's pretty shitty of him to recruit Deshaun Watson his whole HS career, get him to Clemsux as an EE, then start interviewing elsewhere.

what would you have him do?

Every single HC in America has done exactly what you are talking about at a point in his career. If assistant coaches never left after recruiting kids, they'd be assistants their entire career.

I agree with absolutely all of this.

For competing with the Pac's academic Vandy vs some Nintendo schemes, I'm rooting for Mason. Those defenses always looked coached up and ready to play.

either one would be a homerun hire...and Vanderbilt is a lot like stanford so that connection is there...i just dont know how you can pass up Chad Morris though...I wouldnt. And im a defensive minded guy...i think DC's are almost always the better hire, I think they make better Head Coaches...But I still wouldnt pass on Chad Morris...lol

Agreed. With their limitations and inherent handicaps, they need an offensive-minded coach to be competitive.

There is 0 chance Morris stays around at Clemson throughout Watson's whole career.
This will most likely be his last year as their OC.

I have to disagree. Look at A&M. It's an extreme example, buy they had one of the most dangerous offenses in the country, but lack of defense sunk them. Vandy's "limitations and inherent handicaps" would most likely prevent drawing elite offensive talent.

Instead, this hire sets us up with a chance to win almost any game. Our defenses have already been solid, but if they reach the next level from mid-pack SEC to upper pack like Mason could do then we will only need a competent offense to compete. Like I said before, anything can happen in a close game, and the young men in black and gold have shown a new will to win.
