Baton Rouge on Wednesday unveiled a new high-tech community mapping and engagement tool dubbed BRCityKey.com.
During a news conference to promote the new website, which was developed through a public-private partnership, Mayor-President Kip Holden urged residents to explore City Key.
“It does no good if you just stare at it. We want you to use it,” he said.
On the site, users can highlight on maps the locations of parks, libraries, police stations and other services of interest. They also can view demographics, including income and education levels, by neighborhood. The site also features a community events calendar.
More features will be rolled out as they are developed, including crime maps and neighborhood updates.
“We’ve birthed the baby, and now the baby needs to grow,” said Mary Stein, assistant director of the East Baton Rouge Parish library system.
The site was developed by the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, East Baton Rouge Planning Commission, Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods and Louisiana Public Health Institute with assistance from sponsors.
Coletta Barrett, board chair of the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative, said the groups wanted to give residents a tool to learn about their neighborhoods.
“With City Key, we plan to unlock information and encourage citizens of our city-parish to use this information for positive action to make Baton Rouge a healthier community,” she said. “You can become engaged and active in how you personally make Baton Rouge better.”

Well maybe I clicked the wrong thing, but it is showing the area west of plank road to have one of the highest incomes in the parish.

I'm seeing it too, says a majority white population living between Choctaw and Mohican with income between $92,380.01 - $175,090.00

Damn! Maybe they're trying to trick some out of town white folk into gentrifying that area?

That's what your website looks like when you go the cheap route

I'm really confused by what this is supposed to accomplish. This is something a 9th grade student would do for an economics project, not something we waste tax money on.
