Turns out I've got some sort of heart defect. The doctor is calling it Mitral valve prolapse. He assures me I'm OK and not about to fall over and die. And I do feel fine other than from time to time I notice my heart beat acts funny for a while and I'll have some discomfort to go with it.

Anyway, anyone else have any insight or experience they can give me here?

My wife has it, and she acts like it's not that big of a deal.

It's another term for AIDS

This is what I've heard too, and I'm a doctor.

I've already accepted this aspect of it.

Really, I feel fine. But then again you always hear about that guy who outwardly looks fine and then suddenly falls over dead one day. I don't want to be that guy.

The only part that bothers me is the irregular heartbeat I get sometimes. That kinda freaks me out a bit.

Clearly it is a strong case of AIDS of the heart. R.I.P.

But seriously, my wife was diagnosed with it in college. Turns out she didn't have it after all. They had her on a low dose beta blocker. They were running some tests on her a few years ago when she had another issue, and I don't know if it was just better tech now than 10-12 years ago, but they said she didn't have it. I heard it was really common in women. So, congrats on the vagina.

prolapse

I recommend a Google image search of this term to better identity the issue.

I've been a Cardiologist for over 44 years, and I'm sorry you have such a horrible condition. Get in contact with me so I know where to send the flowers.

My best friend has had it all of his life. It's a hole in your heart that can cause erratic behavior from time to time. Doctors told him not to play any sports. He ran track and field and has been an athlete all of his life. It has impacted him about a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10

No thank you good, sir. I know the heart is not the only organ that can have is word apply to it.

You die, then they put you 6 feet down with a bunch of dirt on top of you.

Well doctors told me I had a what they called "murmur" when I was really young. They initially considered open heart surgery but elected to wait and see how it went as I grew. By the time I was like 11 they said it was all but gone. I went on to play HS sports and join the army with no issues.

Then why are you worrying now? It's no big deal.
