Very sad. Surprised you don't see more of this honestly with the way some "boxes" have people working out.

Not going to blame crossfit here. The guy was obviously in phenomenal shape and likely competing in some kind of lifting event. I just don't see why crossfit has some of its population doing similar exercises to this. Unless you're special forces or a competitive athlete I just don't see how short term benefits outweigh the long term wear and tear... Plenty of other ways to get very strong/fit with significantly less risk of long term issues than doing snatch/cleans, etc.

Kevin suffered a spinal transection of T11/12 this weekend when a bar bounced back and hit him after a missed Snatch at the OCThrowdown Competition this weekend. The kid has no insurance and needs some help. Donate anything! $1 helps. It’s fast and easy.

Not to get political, but this is why young, healthy people need insurance.

It was a freak accident that happened when he was using a light weight for him. The guy has been Olympic weightlifting since 8th grade. Has nothing to do with crossfit.

Does using the term transection usually mean a complete tear?

that's just stupid. $75/month gym membership would have covered him for catastrophic.

yep, he'll be in a wheelchair, but other than that he'll be fine, still able to breathe, move his arms, etc..

Well of course. How would you expect him to afford insurance with the amount crossfit cost a month if you do everything they want you too. Sadly I really don't have a huge problem with crossfit. What I do have a problem with is how much it cost to do. I have a couple of buddy's who do it and barely scrape by every month.

No doubt. CF is dumb and you will see this type of thing becoming more common unless people come to their senses. And again in 30 years when all these people's bodies fall apart and we have to foot the bill for their "disabilities."

Why will the rate of spinal injuries increase? Is there a history of this?
