Defense needs to be paid and retained. I wouldn't mind an additional passrusher but that's lagniappe.

An additional deep threat receiver would be nice to have.

It would be nice if Brees did a Tom Brady for the sake of seeking another championship.

As I said, the defense needs to be paid. I do not think it is so much Rob Ryan, as much as the personnel on the D side simply outperformed expectations (with relatively speaking no big names). Ryan has been, however, a good leader of the unit - no questions about that! Any free agents are going to get opportunities, so we need to resign them before that happens.

Running backs played fine when they actually were given the chance to carry the ball. I like all 3 of our main guys there.

Morestead has a few years left.

Not sold on Graham as a kicker despite the Eagle's game.

The only thing I think this team needs to take it to the next level is some upgrades and added depth on the O line. Brees was rushed and sacked far too much this year. Most of his picks were a direct result - something he didn't have to contend with as much on the championship run.

People forget that the Saints needed to simply convert 2 1st downs and may well have been 13 - 3 regular season and a #2 seed.

This team isn't that far off.

my sources tell me that defense wants market value and drew is stealing all of our cap space for ever.

Almost every member has seen their market value increased, as a result of the overall play this year.

Some cap room had better be found if we expect to be anywhere close to the team that limited the Seahawks this past Saturday.

If it's so much Rob Ryan then why didn't he duplicate this success at Dallas?

Really?

Young players stepped up - totally exceeded expectations. The salary for the defense his hilariously absurd. The Saints defense is the best bang for the buck in the entire league.

Wow. just wow.

Im hoping im misunderstanding your post.... just to clarify:

Our defense goes from the worst in the history of the NFL...

gotta say that part again...

the worst in the history of the NFL

...to the fourth ranked overall defense this year, under the tutelage of new DC Rob Ryan, and somehow he's not to credit?

This is something id expect to read on The Rant.

CSP was more involved in the defense. The knock against Ryan was that he schemed too much at times. I think Payton made him more focused and controlled.

And of course, the young players stepped up, but Ryan did an excellent job of building his defense around his players strengths. He was great at adjustments.

they did an admirable job scheming to what was left of our talent early in the season after a couple injuries like patty said.

look, no doubt the players did the playing but its the job of a coordinator to make sure they are in a sound scheme and position to succeed on the field.

A deep threat wr isn't really what we need. We need receivers who can get open at any level.

Why would we "pay" the defense when most of them have multiple years left on their current contract s?

the abilities for recievers to get open is correlated back to the Oline giving brees some time to allow a play to develop.

I partially agree. Brees does need more time than hes had recently, yes, but our WRs are being out-played at the line by press coverage becuase they dont respect our speed (we have none) and even down the field at times.

We need a biggun' with some wheels. Or at least a guy with some wheels who plays big.

Lance Moore's aligator arm attempt at a catch on 4th down made me

You mean you want him to grow his hair long, ride down a slide in his skivvies screaming like a bitch, act smug with reporters and restructure his deal to make the exact same high dollar by stretching it out over another 2 years all to create the illusion of taking a paycut?

To add to your idiotic Rob Ryan statement... it's the coach that realizes strengths of players, maximizes those strengths by installing a system that caters to them, makes adjustments as needed based on game flow and injuries, schemes for the opponents' offenses and teaches the players how to play football. If it were as simple as players playing, then coaches would be an unnecessary expense. You really don't understand this game

What a moronic comment - the players most certainly exceeded expectations. Get your midget head out of Ryan's arse, so you can think more clearly.

Amazing how a few worthwhile comments get nothing but blasted. Typical lack of intelligence out here.
