Sliding Rivers to PG and Roberts to SG would have been enough to win this game tonight. Roberts simply wasn't fast/physical enough to be able to guard Parker. He also drains any life/flow out of the offense when he runs it.

I have no problem with Roberts taking 15 shots a game with the injuries, but Rivers should be running the offense. He gets into the lane much easier, which makes it easier for him to convert off the PnR. His penetration (and even the anticipation of penetration) also collapses the D enough to give our shooters the space from 3.

This is not a bash Roberts thread/cut his minutes thread. He's playing out of position with his athletic limitations.

I agree with all of this. The moment Roberts came in and Rivers went to the 2 along with EG in the game, all was lost from there. Rivers is perfect at the PG bc like you said, he gets to the lane with ease whenever he wants.

Roberts doesn't work well off the ball. At all.

I will also say this as a detriment to Rivers. Rivers is AWFUL at playing off ball. He stands around entirely too much. I'm sure a lot of our players do this, but I notice this with him in particular.

Roberts hasn't been asked to work off the ball, at all.

1) He hasn't played with Jrue much this season.
2) When he's playing with Tyreke, Reke is either taking the shot or finding AD 95% of the time.
3) The few times Roberts/Rivers have been in there together, it is always Roberts handling the PG duties.

I think if he was told to work off the ball, he'd be great at it. He's quick, got a very smooth jumper with a quick release, and can occasionally penetrate. When Roberts shoots, I expect it to go in more than any other player on our team. Percentages might not back that up, but it's just the emotion I feel.

Further, Roberts is freaking tiny. It would be much easier for him to weave around traffic than any other player on our team.

ETA: Monty needs to be coaching to the strengths of his players. He is not doing that when it comes to these two. Roberts is too slow to handle the majority of NBA PG's and too small to handle the rest of the field. Rivers is much stronger, takes better angles 1v1, and quicker. Rivers 1v1 defense was fantastic tonight.

I will take SG's taking contested jumpers with a 6 footer in their face than watching Tony Parker run around to any spot he feels like on the court. It was very bad tonight.

Yep, it's like he's hiding for some reason. I don't get it either. But it definitely doesn't help that the offense is so basic, tough to get him involved. But man, he's incredibly quick and can get the rim every frickin time if he wants...Monty has got to notice this, right?!
