Rifle Caliber - Spinoff from my previous thread

After deciding that I would like to purchase a new rifle rather than a used overpriced one, what caliber do you recommend between a 30-06 and a 270?

What's your main purpose? Whitetail hunting? Average distance of targeted species?

What's your shooting ranges? Obviously not much difference in the two, but if you want something a tad bit flatter, go with .270. If shots under 150, go 30-06.
Just my opinion. My whole family uses 30-06 for the most part.

I don't see myself going to Texas or any place out west so my hunting would mostly be done in Alabama. Most places I have hunted or have had an opportunity to hunt would be 250 at the farthest.
I have never shot a .270 but one of my cousins and a couple friends recommend them. I've only shot a 30-06 at deer and have never had one run on me after hitting it. I'm a little partial to the 30-06 but would be interested in going the .270 if that's the better route to go.

I bought this rifle a couple years ago to use as a woods beater, and doe and hog killer. Now I take it out more than any of my other rifles. Tikka T3 30-06 with a Zeiss Conquest. Solid little combo

I have a .270 and love it. However, during the ammo scare of 2013 stores were sold out of .270, but had a ton of .30-06. If you really are nitpicking might be something to consider. Who knows if their will ever be an ammo scare again.
Or you can just flip a coin as already stated. Can't really go wrong IMO.

Between the two calibers you mentioned Id go with a .30-06. People say that the .30-06 is capable of taking down any animal in North America from Gophers to Grizzly.

I guess I did.
Just trying to get some opinions. Going to try and get back into deer hunting come next season and since I've never owned a rifle of my own I want to be happy with my purchase. I'm not too nit picky but I don't want to buy something just to be buying it.

I currently shoot a 270 but my next rifle will be 308

.30-06. It's what Jesus would shoot.

only negative with 270wsm is ammo price, eapecially compared to the two rounds mentioned. I have a 270wsm and rarely take it unless im hunting powerlines. my 308 and 30-30 head to the woods for the most part
