I maxed out my front squat this morning at 375#. My back squat PR is 405#, which seems way to close to my front squat PR. I haven't maxed out my back squat in a few months but I can't see it being much higher than 405, maybe 415 tops. And that still seems too close.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong on my back squats, or could I just be good at front squats for some reason? And I break parallel on all reps so it's not like I'm cheating on one and that's causing this.

Not even super power builders can front squat 375lbs so I doubt you can.

I don't have video. I can record my back and front squats the next time I do them though, and bump this thread with them.

I would have to see your depth on this to believe you. I back squat in the mid 5's at 42 yo and 230#'s and 315 is a lot of weight on the front squat for me.

It's not alarming. Front squats hit the quads a little more, but if your quads are stronger than your back and hips, I expect a little closer gap in max front versus max back.

Follow up questions - do you use a high or low bar position for your back squat and do you always break parallel, front or back? Also, do you use a clean position on the front squat, cross-arm or what?

I use a high bar position on the back squat. I always break parallel on both squats. And I use a clean position grip for the front squat

Damn thats a badass back squat sir but I always break parallel. I've done a front squat in a competition before, about 9 months ago, and I front squatted 345# for it and it counted. I'm fairly certain my 375 would stand up as well.

Take your word for it then. Solid lift.

Used to powerlift back in the day so it's refreshing to see someone who can go past parallel on the squat. However, it's always fun to watch a douche stack up a bar with wheels and then barely bend their knees on a squat rack. Then brag that they got that....

All I can say is that I better not see you doing these squats in my curl rack...so help me god if I find one more person squating in my damn curl rack I'm gonna lose it.

I don't doubt you and it is not all that uncommon. However, with a legit 375 front, I would expect 415 to 425 (heck, maybe 440) on the back, especially a high bar squat of equivalent depth.

I would have someone check the form on your back squat - perhaps even go to box squats for a cycle - which can reveal some flaws in your form. It is probably hip flexibility or overdeveloped quads (possibly both) as either of those could result in your situation.

On the other hand, you indicated you competed in front squat - perhaps it is just a preferred exercise for you, you developed above average ability in it and it remains closer to your back squat than would be expected. Just because it is unusual (and not even that unusual), doesn't mean there's something wrong. Most people don't front squat very much, in the first place.

I'd prefer to do bodyweight with proper form than all that drama - that's why I lift weights at home.

Yeah I had a friend on facebook post a video of him front squatting 225 a couple times, in a smith machine no less, and not coming anywhere close to even parallel. He was also at Planet Fitness, I believe. Just seemed like a video that encompassed everything wrong with some people's lifting ways

Dude I would never be that guy. Ain't nobody got time to deal with some a-hole squatting in the curl rack
