Props to you for buying your daughter a new car.

Just get her a Civic and don't worry about maintenance.

My stepfather-in-law had one for about 6 months as a company car. Now, hes 6'5", so that caused its own set of problems. But aside from that, it was an awful car. The charge lasted for 50 miles, and he never plugged it in because it was a tremendous pain in the arse. Because the gas tank is so small, they'd have to stop around every 200 miles to fill up. (granted it cost like $15.00 to fill, but still annoying as shite on a trip.)
Buy the Civic. Price tag is less, maintenance is less, gets great gas mileage, safe and reliable car.

Get a Prius if you are dead set on a hybrid. Best combo of space and MPG. They make several different models to suit your daughter's needs (standard hybrid, plug in, etc), as well as 3 different sizes (C, standard, V).
The wife got a 2013 standard in May, and we've averaged 48 MPG hand calculated, and that was with a lot of 80 mph highway driving (which is way less efficient than city driving in hybrids).

Civic Hybrid is the obvious choice...and im not just saying this because I sell Hondas
But seriously...the Chevy's trade in value is terrible. The prius is not bad...but you will get more for your money in the Honda Civic.

Just saw an article where they said replacement batteries for the Volt could cost as much as $35,000. I'd steer clear. Go for the tried and true Prius.
ETA: Or go for the Civic, or something Honda, to avoid the premium the Prius commands.

I know you sell Hondas, but there is really no comparison between the Prius and the Civic hybrid. 10% better fuel economy with the Prius, not to mention the Prius has much more cargo room and extra passenger room as well.
ETA: And for jordan, Prius and Civic hybrid have approx. the same MSRP.

DO NOT BUY THE VOLT! we have them as company cars and everyone hates them. They dont get near amount of range they say they do and they are constantly in the shop. just get a small honda or toyota or even a volkswagen TDI.

That's what makes my job so easy...MSRP is similar between the two...put them side by side and you tell me which one is a better value.

I bought a civic hybrid and curse that POS every day.
Honda's batteries fail (on my 3rd one), the car loses MPGs after a year or so, and it handles like a fricking box car derby car, and has about as much pick up.

LOL shite. my second main concern ( really first) is safety so a Prius is out, it's just too small regardless of how it does in crash tests. . May try to Passat hybrid. anybody got one of those? Or maybe the Jetta

btw, I was talking about the regular Civic. If you are getting a hybrid, get the tried and true Prius. Otherwise, just get a Civic EX, and enjoy the 500 mile range. You'll trade in the car before you even see the value add for the more expensive Hybrid.
