I have heard it is in your best interest to go talk with the best, high dollar ones in the area. That way she can't use them...

If you are concerned by how much the attorney will cost you, I can't imagine that you really need any better than a mediocre divorce attorney

Pretty sure you have to do some sort of business with that attorney. At least a consultation where you pay him.

Regardless of how much you pay your attorney, divorce will break your bank.

I used Larry h. Smith in baton rouge. He's a bit of a grumpy old man but he took care of me. I had a straightforward divorce wwith no kids. Paid under $5k.

Search for a board certified family law specialist. Those are the experts in their field.

I know they did this in the Sopranos, but that was a tv show. In real life, you'll have to meet with each of these high dollar ones in the area and reveal more than a little personal info in order to create a conflict of interest (so your wife can't use them) - of course, no high dollar lawyer is going to hold an hour meeting with you for free for something like this. If you've got some type of tremendous estate worth fighting over, you could make a case for this strategy - but for the average joe, paying multiple high dollar retainers to the best and most expensive lawyers all over town isn't really feasible.

If you got enough to fight over, it doesnt matter how much you pay.

I didnt have two nickels to rub together when I got divorced and she didnt want to fight about it. She was represented by a friend of hers and me a friend of mine and it was done with no drama over the child either.

No need to be an a-hole, with no complications or lots of assets I see the nice guy come out better than the a-hole.
