You have to give Miles and Co. credit they have done a great job with OOS recruiting but could that possibly be one of the reasons why we have slipped and has affected our in the In-state recruiting efforts?

There are only so many hours in the day and when you double your efforts out of state you have to take the effort away from somewhere which is naturally in-state.

Just a thought, but it seems logical.

While this would be a logical assumption keep in mind these kids don't think "I'm an in state kid". They think about whats best for them in their individual situation. It just turns out this year a significant group picked elsewhere.

as of late it seems like a lot of kids want to travel out of state and see new things. respectable imo.

These kids are going to middle of no where Texas,Florida and Alabama. I'm not buying the seeing new things approach. If it was California or something of the sort, I'd understand.

Well Austin is a much better overall city than Baton Rouge. I'll buy Alabama and Florida though.

I don't know. I get that some kids want to get away, but it just seems Miles and Co. have been spending more time recruiting OOS recruits which is taking time away from our in-state boys and that maybe some of the problem as to why we are losing in-state recruits that would have really helped LSU.

It would be interesting to know if the coaches are logging more time out of state in recruiting as opposed to the average over the past 5 years. If they are than that could be one of the reasons we are losing ground in our own state. The time has to come from somewhere.

It is just a thought, but we have lost too much ground in our own state this year. Over the past few years we have seem some erosion in the lock we have had on our in-state talent and everyone has said the same old things "you won't get everyone" or "some recruits just want a change in scenery" etc... Well after this year with what has happened it is obviously more than just that. And if the powers at be don't figure it out it is only going to get worse. You usually have to admit and then locate the problem before you can fix the problem.

what are you basing this on? you have access to the travel logs of all the coaches?? how do you know they didn't spend more time on in state recruits

No I don't have access to the travel logs of the coaches, everything I saying I am just making assumptions which I could be totally wrong.

But I am not buying the easy way out here. I am not buying "we can't get them all" and "some kids just want to get away" etc.... I agree with those statements within reason, but what is happening in our recruiting of in-state talent this year "in my opinion" is not within reason.

I feel there are issues and that there are identifiable solutions to fix those issues. I am just guessing that maybe, because of the national presence that LSU has garnered over the past 12 years or so that we are reaching more OOS recruits and are able to reach more of them, is that taking time away from our in-state recruiting. I am assuming that the number of man hours you spend on recruiting is basically fixed for the most part with all the restrictions at hand. So if that is the case is it a "taking from Peter to pay Paul" kind of scenario.

Like I said it is just a thought, but in my opinion we have issues and we better figure them out and fix them before it gets any worse.

It seems the OOS recruitment is a reflection or adjustment for in-state recruitment. Adams was a result of Jones to Bama. The OL recruits a result of CR to Bama. The DL recruits a result of Willis to FL. The WR recruits a result of Speedy to aTm and MD waffling. Had all chosen LSU, this class would have a completely different feel.

The staff prioritized Louisiana recruits first. But had to adjust based on those recruits choosing OOS. That is the reason the Staff is now having to scramble and catch up this late in the game. I believe the result will be a change in tactics. If Lousiana recruits are not prioritizing LSU, then LSU must make OOS a higher priority. Before a wholesale change however, I believe the staff will see how the next class goes. And also determine what caused the loss of 4 in-state recruits that the staff went after full bore and would have filled specific high priority need areas.

Another way to look at this is that the coaches spent too much time tying to tie down the in-state recruits. The coaches could have spent their time better recruiting LCarter, AJackson, TValentine, DWilliams, and other out-of-state high profile national recruits.

if LSU does NOT adopt an expanded regional approach (ie, southeast and beyond) we will be fricked. sorry but today's recruit is looking at other schools including bama, aggy, florida, tejas etc. it's a fact of life in today's football world. they are instantly aware of who committed where and they want to go where there their position is less competitivve so they can get early playing time and get the hell out for the nfl in 3 years.

If there's a concern that OOS recruiting takes time away from in state then we don't have a big enough recruiting staff. I seriously doubt that's the case. I like the fact that we seem to beexpanding the pool.

I also wonder how much of an effect having OOS nationally televised games helps the process. Did the Cowboys' stadium games with Oregon and TCU get us a leg up in the Dallas metro market? Will the Wisconsin game give us good exposure in Houston? Does it matter the locale or just the national TV time? Honestly I don't know what effect if any this has.

I don't believe so. Lsu has boys from the boot in the spring, they have their camps in the summer, they go to their schools and evaluate them, they have them for official visits. The recruit the in-state guys harder than the out of state guys.

Unfortunately, the kids we missed on seem to have very little guidence or direction.

Have you not played NCAA?!

A letter takes an hour
A phone call takes 3 hours
A visit takes 7

That's PER PLAYER And you only have like, 15 hours a week to do it all!

Very valid points.

That is obviously what they should do I think we can all agree.

quote:

If Lousiana recruits are not prioritizing LSU, then LSU must make OOS a higher priority

And there is the problem. If Louisiana recruits are not prioritizing LSU than this is a switch from what has been the case over the past decade. With LSU enjoying arguably its most successful period in its football history, why are Louisiana recruits starting to change how they think of LSU as opposed to the past decade?

That is the question we need to figure out the answer to, so that we can try and rectify what has happened this year.

That is the part I am not buying, excuses like that one. Ok you could say that about one recruit or maybe two recruits but when it is 6 top flight recruits "Noil, Willis, Jones, C-Rob along with Sims, McDowell and possibly Dupre at this time. And also with Godchaux supposedly opening up his recruitment again. I am not buying it too many recruits to all have very little guidance or direction, or "you can't get them all" or "some just want to go out of state"

If people can't see "from this years class especially" that there are issues, than seriously you need to open your eyes up a little wider. Like I stated Miles and Co have done a phenomenal job at recruiting OOS recruits especially this year. But hopefully they can figure out what went wrong this year with the in-state recruiting and fix the issue what ever it is.

If that is the case then what went wrong? Because over the past decade this was not the case.
