Agreed. I think the 2005 Tigers were (or would've been) the best LSU team in my lifetime, and that would have been a national championship year, except.

I "assume" that anyone who thinks the Tigers did anything other than play their hearts against Tennessee in 2005 out must have been watching a different game than I was. It was not a lack of want that caused that loss.

LSU at Notre Dame 1970
Was in school, and several of us drove to South Bend without tix. Got tix at stadium. Sat in end zone where ND kicked winning field goal.
We beat them entire game. As I recall, we missed two field goals. Notre Dame only got past mid-field once and made their only fg try. On the previous play, they attempted a pass, and Tommy Casanova went up for the easy interception, but ball went right thru his hands. Only time I ever saw him miss an easy catch like that. That miss haunts him still I think.
All the ND fans congratulated us after the game, admitting that the better team lost and they were lucky to get the W.
The next year, they came to Tiger Stadium for a nationally televised Saturday night ABC game. We dominated 28-8.
It was fitting retribution.

LSU just didn't have anything left in the second half. It was all UT. It wasn't a lack of want, it was that LSU had nothing left.
LSU had -7 yards of offense in the 4th quarter, and less than 50 total in the second half.
I think my thoughts on this not being one of the better LSU performances in a loss is well founded.

I read somewhere after that season that the team lost an average of something like 15-20 lbs. per man during the weeks after Katrina. They came out in that game on fire but by the second half were absolutely drained. I wasn't there, but on TV you could see the players just wilting in the second half. Some who were there told me that it was one of the hottest, most humid games they can ever remember in Tiger Stadium.
The team managed to win every game after that (with no bye week) until they ran into UGA in the SEC championship game. Again, they just didn't have enough left in the tank to prevail. After a couple of weeks rest, though, we got to see a taste of what could have been when a fresh and rejuvenated Tigers team just annihilated Miami in the Peach Bowl.
I've always believed that without Katrina, we would have finished that year undefeated.

Add in Lsu vs #1 and eventual national champ Bama in '79 too. Score 0-3. Game gets overshadowed by USC same season. Didn't have near the same electricity as USC.
Also Lsu vs Nebraska in '83 orange bowl 20-21. Remember players going out of their way to exit field through goal posts because that's the way they always entered and left field regardless of stadium and locker room location.
How about best tie? 6-6 vs #1 ranked Nebraska '76 in Tiger Stadium to open the season.
And 0-3 vs #2 ranked notre dame at south bend 1970. Saw that one on tv. ND band formed a four leaf clover at half. They needed that good luck to beat the Tigers who were out to make ND pay for Cotton Bowl snub Lsu suffered as a result of ND accepting a bowl bid for the first time in their history.

At Florida 1992. We were 2-9 that year, and LSU had a shot to win it. It was by far the worst LSU team to hit the field, and ironically came
the closest of any of the 90's teams to win in Gainesville.

That Tenn game was one of the most humid, miserable experiences I've ever had. LSU players were dropping like flies with cramps and dehydration.
What that team accomplished that season is nothing short of amazing.
Should be a 30 for 30 or SEC Storied at least.

#5. Auburn. There was some serious skull cracking going on in that game and it ended at the 3yrd line or something luke that.

Ok on the USC79 game. I think the 2011 game against Cam N and Auburn. Cam was a freak that game and we played hard. At that point Cam was a man amongst boys.

LSU at Auburn 2010. Had to watch that game while on the job. We were undefeated coming in and lost on a big play at the end. Could've gave Cam Newton his first loss.

Really good list. I can't think of any obvious changes I'd make.
THE worst officiated game I've seen, so bad I'm convinced it was fixed. It was also a hard hitting game which LSU dominated statistically. Every positive play was negated with a flag.

TBH, AU was way better in 2010 and knelt the ball at the end rather than score again. LSU had a pitiful offense and the defense was getting gashed by the end.

Agreed. I was there, and it was stifling hot. New coaching staff, and summer practices and workouts had been interrupted with the storm. It was a clusterfrick in BR that whole time.
Although an undefeated LSU would've been left out of the BCS.

If I remember correctly LSU out scored ND but had the scores called back by the zebras, but the payback in '71 was embarrassing for the domers.
